guitar in standard tuning:<br/> <br/> E A D G B E (low to high)<br/> <br/> and altering the tuning as follows .....<br/> <br/> Listening to the Intro. The 2 highest notes, which ring throughout,<br/> sound as open strings. These notes are 'B' and 'D', and gives us:<br/> <br/> ? ? ? ? B D<br/> <br/> The first 2 (lowest) notes of the common picked pattern are doubled<br/> G notes. Tuning the A-string down to G would make this possible to<br/> play, giving:<br/> <br/> ? G ? ? B D<br/> <br/> The other G can be played on the E-string-3rd fret, although at the<br/> moment its tuning isn't clear.<br/> <br/> The descending run in bar 4, contains open strings. An open D-string<br/> can be heard. The highest note picked is an 'A' - this also sounds as<br/> an open note, implying the standard G-string needs to be tuned to an<br/> open A, giving:<br/> *<br/> ? G D A B D<br/> <br/> * Make sure you were originally tuned to standard 'E' (as found on a<br/> guitar tuner) or lower, before attempting this. Otherwise the G-string<br/> is put under stress and can break.<br/> <br/> The only unknown string is the bottom E-string, which is left tuned<br/> to E - allowing the doubled G note to be played on the 3rd fret.<br/> <br/> In verse 1 bar 8, there is an ascending pattern which uses the lowest<br/> 3 strings in open positions. Verse<br/> 3 uses the same shape as a chorus.<br/> <br/> In the chorus' spend time getting the feel of 2/4 time. Also, make<br/> sure the guitar is in tune - a few D's played in unison can sound<br/> unforgiving if it isn't up to scratch. The chorus' sound 'jangley',<br/> its possible that they were either doubletracked, played with a<br/> chorus effect or that a 12-string guitar was used. Chorus 2 has a<br/> mandolin mixed in with the guitar, which in turn gives it a brighter<br/> sound.<br/> <br/> Both solos are similar and have a Spanish/flamenco feel. The solos<br/> contain some fast note flurries and wide interval steps, requiring<br/> some fretboard fluency.
