Some of these suggestions depend on the contexts in the song. E.g. the Cmaj7-Dm7-Em7 figure, which should be played with the barre chords; elsewhere the standard form may work just as good.

[C]All through the year we [G11]waited
Waited through spring and [Cmaj7]fall[Dm7] [Em7]
To hear [C]silver bells [Am/F#]ringing
see [B7]wintertime [Em7]bringing
The [Am7]happiest [D9]season of [G11]all:
[Cmaj7]Chestnuts [Dm7]roasting on an [Em7]open fire,[Fmaj7] [G7]
[Cmaj7]Jack Frost [Gm7]nipping [C7]at your [Fmaj7]nose, [B7#9] [E7]
[Am7]Yuletide [Dm7-5]carols being [Cmaj7]sung by a [F#m7]choir, [B7]
And [Emaj7]folks dressed up like[Fm7] [Bb9]Eski[Ebmaj7]mos. [Dm7]
[G7]Everybody [Cmaj7]knows a [Dm7]turkey and some [Em7]mistletoe,[Fmaj7] [Gsus4] [G]
[Cmaj7] Help to [Gm7]make the [C7]season [Fmaj7]bright. [B7#9] [E7]
[Am7]Tiny little tot[Dm7-5]s with their [Cmaj7]eyes all [F#m7]aglow, [B7]
Will [Em7]find it [Am7]hard to [Dm7]sleep[G7] to[Cmaj7]night. [(G6] [Cmaj7)]
They know that [Gm7]San [C7]-- ta's on his [Gm7]way; [C7]
He's loaded [Gm7]lots of toys [C7] on his [Fmaj7]sleigh. *)
And [Fm7]every mother's [Bb7]child is going to [Ebmaj7]spy,
To see if [Am7]reindeer really [D7]know how to [Dm7]fly. [G7]
And so I'm offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although its been said many times, many ways,
Merry Christmas to you
(instrumental bridge)
And so I'm offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although its been said many times, many ways,
[B7]Merry [Em7]Christma[Am7]s [Dm7]to [G7] yo[Cmaj7/E]u [Am7] [Dm7]
[G7]Merry [Em7]Christma[Am7]s [Dm7]to [G7] yo[Cmaj7]u
From the recent Bill Flanagan interview:
BF: I think you did drop the “goodies” on the sleigh. Did something about
that bother you?
BD: No not really. I don’t think I thought of it until you mentioned it. I
try my best to be exact, but sometimes things just fall away. We probably
recorded the song, got the feel right and moved on. Most likely we
didn’t even listen back. Just moved on to something else. I
don’t think that’s something I would have noticed anyway.
