| Am | C | D | F | Am | C | E | |
| There | is a | house in | New Or- | leans, They | call the | Rising | Sun |
| Am | C | D | F | Am | E | Am | |
| And it's | been the | ruin of | many a po' | girl, And | me, Oh | God, I'm | one. |

| ... | ... | ... | ... |
| Am | C | D | F | Am | C | E | |
| My | mother | was a | tailor | , She | sewed my | new blue | jeans |

| My | sweetheart | was a | gambler | lord, | down in | New | Orleans. |

| Now the | only | thing a | gambler | needs, Is a | suitcase | and a | trunk |
| Am | C | D | F | Am | E | Am | |
| And the | only | time he's | satis- | fied, Is | when he's | on a | drunk. |

| He | fills his | glass up | to the | brim, And he'll | pass the | cards a- | round |

| And the | only | pleasure he | gets outa | life, Is | ramblin from | town to | town. |

| Am | C | D | F | Am | C | E | |
| Go | tell my | baby | sister, | , Not to | do what | I have | done |
| Am | C | D | F | Am | E | Am | |
| But to | shun that | house in | New Or- | leans, They | call the | Rising | Sun. |
| . . . |
| Am | C | D | F | Am | C | E | |
| Well it's | one foot | on the | platform, | . . .and the | other foot | on the | train |
| Am | C | D | F | Am | E | Am | |
| I'm | goin' | back to | New Or- | leans, to | wear that | ball and | chain |
| . . . |
| Am | C | D | F | Am | C | E | |
| Well I'm | goin' | back to | New Or- | leans, my | race is | almost | run |
| Am | C | D | F | Am | E | Am | |
| I'm | goin' | back to | end my | life, down | in the | Rising | Sun |
| . . . |
I like this version:) lots of improv avalible:) thanks for posting
Song was not an Animals Original and they lyrics have been changed almost everytime some one records it or plays it ....I am not sure if the original lyrics were ever put to pen and paper..whiel I do enjoy Eric Burdens version of the song .. I like these lyrics also
Where did these lyrics come from? They aren't the ones The Animals used!
like this version it suits a mandolin
This isnt the right chord progression and/or lyrics, the original lyrics were written by the animals and i dont understand why people changed it.
