Cat's In The Cradle Harry Chapin
[E]My child arrived just the [G]other day, He [A]came to the world in the [E]usual way
[E]But there were planes to catch and [G]bills to pay, [A]He learned to walk while I [E]was away
And he was [D]talking 'for I [A]knew it, and [D]as he grew
He said "[G]I'm gon[D]na be like [E]you, dad, you [G]know I'm go[D]nna be like [E]you"
Chorus
And the [E]cat's in the cradle and the [D]silver spoon, [G]Little boy blue and the [A]man in the moon
[E]"When you commin' home dad?" "I [D]don't know when, But [G]we'll get[D] together [E]then, son
You know [G]we'll have a[D] good time [E]then"
[E]My son turned ten just the [G]other day He said [A]"Thanks for the ball dad, [E]come on let's play
Can you [E]teach me to throw" I said [G]"Not today I got a [A]lot to do" He said [E]"Thats OK"
He [D]walked [A]away but his [D]smile never dimmed, He said [G]I'm go[D]nna be like [E]him, yeah
You [G]know I'm go[D]nna be like [E]him
Chorus
And the [E]cat's in the cradle and the [D]silver spoon, [G]Little boy blue and the [A]man in the moon
[E]"When you commin' home dad?" "I [D]don't know when, But [G]we'll get together [E]then, son
You know [G]we'll have a good time [E]then"
[E]Well he came from college just the [G]other day So [A]much like a man I just [E]had to say
"Son I'm proud of you can you [G]sit for a while?" He [A]shook his head and he [E]said with a smile,
"What I'd [D]really like dad is to [Bm]borrow the car keys, [G]See you later can I [E]have them please?"
Chorus
And the [E]cat's in the cradle and the [D]silver spoon, [G]Little boy blue and the [A]man in the moon
[E]"When you commin' home son?" "I [D]don't know when, But [G]we'll get [D]together [E]then, Dad
You know [G]we'll have[D] a good time [E]then"
[E]I've long since retired, my [G]son's moved away I [A]called him up just the [E]other day
I said [E]"I'd like to see you if [G]you don't mind" He said [A]"I'd love to dad if I could [E]find the time,
You see the my new [D]job's a[A] hassle and the [D]kids have the flu But it's [G]sure nice[D] talkin' to [E]you dad
It's [G]sure [D]nice talkin' [E]to you"
And as [D]I hung [A]up the phone it [G]occurred to me, [D]He'd grown up just like [E]me
[G]My boy[D] was just like [E]me
Chorus
And the [E]cat's in the cradle and the [D]silver spoon, [G]Little boy blue and the [A]man in the moon
[E]"When you commin' home son?" "I [D]don't know when, But [G]we'll get[D] together [E]then, Dad
You know [G]we'll[D] have a good time [E]then"
