THE RIVER

You know a dream is like a river ever changin' as it flows.
And the [G]dreamer's just a vesse[D/F#]l that must [Em7]follow where it [A]goes.
D G/D D *D Bm G
Trying to learn from what's behind you, and never knowing what's in store
D G/D D *D A D #D#
Makes each day a constant battle just to stay between the shores
CHORUS
D G/D D *D G/D D *D
And I will sail my vessel 'til the river runs dry.
Like a [G]bird upon the wi[D/F#]nd, these [Em7]water's are my s[A]ky.
Bm A/C# D G/D D *D G
I'll never reach my destination if I never try.
D G/D D *D A D #D#
So, I will sail my vessel 'till the river runs dry.
2: Too many times we stand aside and let the water slip away
'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow has now become today.
So, don't you sit upon the shorline and say you're satisfied.
Choose to chance the rapids and dare to dance the tide.
(To Chorus:)
BRIDGE
[A/C#]And there's [Bm]bound to be rough wa[G]ters and I [D]know I'll [D/F#]take some [G]falls.
But with the [Em7]Good Lord as my [D/F#]captain, I can [G]make it through them all.[Asus]
CHORUS (with key change)
Yes, I will [E]sail [A/E]my ve[E]ssel 'til the [A/E]river runs dr[E]y.
Like a [A]bird upon the win[E/G#]d, these [F#m7]water's are my [B]sky.
I'll[C#m] neve[B/D#]r [E]reach my [A/E]desti[E]nation [A]if I never try.
So, I will [E]sail [A/E]my [E]vessel 'till the [B]river runs d[E]ry.[F#m7] [E/G#]
[A]Yes, I will [E]sail [A/E]my [E]vessel 'till the [B]river runs d[A]ry.[B/A]
[A] 'til the river [B/A]runs dry.
By *D I mean to hammer on from Dsus2 (xx0230) to D (xx0232) on the 1st string.
[#D#] [is] [D-D-Dsus4-D-Dsus2-D]
Is this OK for a tab style?
I'll offer a piece of tab that I did for someone recently. It's not my
usual favorite style of music, but what the hey. I'm not very good with
chord names, so maybe somebody can correct or help me.
Intro: G G(add A Bflat like 320013) G(add A C like 320033)
G (add A B flat as before)...D
During the verse, the guitar usually throws in a Dsus (xx0233) on the
first chord.
What I call chords and what they really mean.
D/F# is (200232)
[D]You know a dream is like a river,
ever [G]changing as it [D]flows
And the [G]dreamer's just a [D/F#]vesse
and I know I'll take some falls
But with the [Em]Good Lord as my [D/F#]Captain
I can make it through them [A]all.
whats in store
Makes each [D]day a constant battle
just to [A]stay between the [D]shores.
And I will [D]sail my vessel
till the [G]River runs [D]dry
Like a [G]bird upon the [D/F#]wind
these [Em]waters are my [A]sky
I'll never [D]reach my destination
[G]if I never try so I will [D]sail my vessel
Till the [A]River runs [D]dry.
Too many times we stand aside
and let the waters slip away
Till what we've put off till tomorrow
has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline
and say you're satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids
and dare to dance the tide.
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Well there's [Bm]bound to be rough [G]waters
and I [D]know [D/F#]I'll take some [G]falls
But with the [Em]Good Lord as my [D/F#]Captain
I can make it through them [A]all.
Yes I will [E]sail my vessel
till the [A]River runs [E]dry
Like a [A]bird upon the [E/G#]wind
these [F#m]waters are my [B]sky
I'll never [E]reach my destination
[A]if I never try
so I will [E]sail my vessel
Till the [B]River runs [E]dry.[A]
Yes I will [E]sail my vessel Till the [B]River runs [A]dry.
You can fake a good ending staying on the A and suspending it
(x02230) and ending on the E.
The River
Garth Brooks
Intro: G chord, adding C# to it, moving into D
[Verse 1]
You know a dr[D]eam is like a river, ever cha[G]nging as it fl[D]ows.
And a dre[G]amer's just a ve[D/F#]ssel that must fo[Em]llow where it g[A]oes
Trying to le[D]arn from what's behind him
And never kn[Bm]owing what's in s[G]tore
Makes each d[D]ay a constant battle
Just to st[A]ay between the sh[D]ores
[cborus]
And I will s[D]ail my vessel 'til the ri[G]ver runs d[D]ry,
Like a b[G]ird upon the [D/F#]wind these wa[Em]ters are my s[A]ky
I'll never r[D]each my destination i[G]f I never try
So I will s[D]ail my vessel 'til the ri[A]ver runs dr[D]y.
[Verse 2]
Too many ti[D]mes we stand aside and let the w[G]aters slip aw[D]ay
'Til what we p[G]ut off 'til t[D#/F#]omorrow has [Em]now become to[A]day
So don't you si[D]t upon the shoreline and s[Bm]ay you're sati[G]sfied
Ch[D]oose to chance the rapids and d[A]are to dance the t[D]ide.
[cborus]
And I will s[D]ail my vessel 'til the r[G]iver runs d[D]ry,
Like a b[G]ird upon the [D/F#]wind these w[Em]aters are my s[A]ky
I'll never re[D]ach my destination if I never t[G]ry
So I will s[D]ail my vessel 'til the r[A]iver runs d[D]ry.
[Bridge]
[D] [D/C#] And there's [Bm]bound to be rough w[G]aters
And I k[D]now I'll take some f[G]alls
But with the g[Em]ood Lord as my ca[D/F#]ptain
G A modulate into E:
I can make it through them all
[cborus] (there are no chords played during the first 2 lines)
And I will s[E]ail my vessel 'til the r[A]iver runs d[E]ry,
Like a b[A]ird upon the [E/G#]wind these w[F#m]aters are my s[B]ky
I'll never re[E]ach my destination [A]if I never try
So I will s[E]ail my vessel 'til the r[B]iver runs d[E]ry.[A]
Yes, I will s[E]ail my vessel
'Til the ri[B]ver runs d[A]ry
'Til the river runs d[E]ry
