If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Capo second fret is usual, but you could change it to go with your voice.
This tab shows how to do the whole song fingerpicking with a single guitar.
I left out most variations/fills 'cause they're more for when there's at least two guitars.
Suggestions are welcome.
Notes
(1) I like to use the D as a bass note too-it just sounds good.
(2) Here, do random picking. I gave a specific pattern as an example,
but you can do anything with it
(3) On the chorus, I think it normally is just the G twice for the first time G shows up.
It just sounded drawn out to me, so I switched one G out for G/B.
I put G/B first because the build sounds dramatic going G C D E.
(4) I really had no clue what to do for the fill/outro.
I played with a bunch of different stuff, and just kind of settled with what sounded okay.
I'll gladly take suggestions for this part!

(intro once or twice)
[G]If you could read my mind love, [Dm6/F]what a tale my thoughts could tell
[G]Just like an old time movie '[Dm6/F]bout a ghost from a wishin' well
[G/B]In a castle d[G]ark or a f[C]ortress strong with c[D]hains upon my f[Em]eet
You [C]know that ghost is [G]me[G]
And [C]I will never [G/B]be set free as [Am7]long as I'm a [D]ghost that you can't s[G]ee
(intro)
[G]If I could read your mind love, [Dm6/F]what a tale your thoughts could tell
[G]Just like a paperback novel [Dm6/F]the kind that drugstores sell
[G/B]When you reach the pa[G]rt where the h[C]eartaches come the h[D]ero would be [Em]me
But [C]heroes often [G]fail[G]
And [C]you won't read that [G/B]book again [Am7]because the ending's [D]just too hard to [G]take
(Fillx2)
[G/B]I'd walk aw[G]ay like a m[C]ovie star who gets b[D]urned in a three way s[Em]cript
[C]Enter number [G]two[G]
A [C]movie queen to [G/B]play the scene of [Am7]bringing all the [D]good things out in [Em]me
[C]But for now love, let's be [G]real[G]
I [C]never thought I could [G/B]act this way and I've [Am7]got to say that I [D]just don't get it
I [C]don't know where [G/B]we went wrong but the [Am7]feelin's gone and I [D]just can't get it[G] back
(Intro)
[G]If you could read my mind love, [Dm6/F]what a tale my thoughts could tell
[G]Just like an old time movie '[Dm6/F]bout a ghost from a wishin' well
[G/B]In a castle da[G]rk or a f[C]ortress strong with c[D]hains upon my f[Em]eet
But [C]stories always [G]end[G]
And [C]if you read [G/B]between the lines you'll [Am7]know that I'm just [D]tryin' to under[Em]stand
The [C]feelin's that you [G]lack[G]
I [C]never thought I could [G/B]feel this way and I've [Am7]got to say that I [D]just don't get it
[C]I don't know where [G/B]we went wrong but the [Am7]feelin's gone And I [D]just can't get it [G]back
