According to the CD lyrics the br>chorus says 'and they dammed the river' but on the recording it
sounds like 'and they downed the river'. What ever you prefer.Anybody wanna rate it?

(Verse 1)
Well they [B]finally put that red light up in the [E]heart of town
Took the [B]stop sign down, it was shot up [E]anyhow
One [B]night I ran right through it in my [E]Chevrolet
Both [B]police cars came, but I [E]got away
(Chorus 1)
It was a [F#]boomtown back in'62, 'til the [E]coal ran out
And a drought came through, and they [B]dammed the river
That we all used to [F#]fish [E]
[F#]Population 405 and [E]I made it 404 one night
And left the [B]city limit sign layin' in the [F#]ditch
(no chord) (Chorus walk) (B-E walk)
Run plumb over it, leavin' Metropolis
(Verse 2)
Well, I [B]found myself in a big high-rise with a [E]concrete yard
It ain't safe [B]after dark, guess this ol' boy [E]drove too far
Met a [B]girl, fell in love, got married and she's [E]due in May
Says we're gonna [B]need more space, I said I know [E]just the place
(Bridge)
Where we can [E]walk down to the country store
And we [B]won't even have to [F#]lock our door
We can [E]still get air and [B]water there for f[F#]ree[E]
She said that sounds g[F#]ood to me [E]
(Chorus 2)
It was a [F#]boomtown back in'62, 'til the [E]coal ran out
And a drought came through, and they [B]dammed the river
That we all used to [F#]fish[E]
[F#]Population 404 and when [E]we pull in it'll be 3 more
And there's a [B]city limit sign layin' in the [F#]ditch
(no chord) (Chorus Walk) (B-E walk)
That I need to fix, back in Metropolis
(B-A walk)
I'm almost in Metropolis
(no chord)
And I'm back in Metropolis
