Love Song for a Savior Jars of Clay
I'm not sure how JOC actually plays the song, but this version comes as close
as anything I've heard to capturing the sound of this song with one guitar.
Just saw them last week in concert and they used a guitar and a mandolin.
6 String Accousic. Standard tuning. No capo.
Unique chords used are:
EADGBe
Gsus: 320013 alternate with G, only hit it once
Am7/G#: 4x2010 playing an Am7, use pinky to come up and hit G# root
CaddG: x32013 a C chord using pinky to hold G on little E string
Am7addG: x02013 Am7 with the pinky on G
EmaddG: 021003 just keep pinky on G
Dsus: xx0233 again, pinky on G
Bb: x13331 bar chord, last string can be muted
Bm7: x24232 bar chord
The “addG” chords probably have other names, but I couldn’t find them anywhere.
On the Chorus, to make the “addG” chords, you basically hold your pinky in
place throughout the whole chord progression and strum the highs harder than
the lows. It will give that ringing high G tone to the whole chorus. I think
they actually use the mandolin to get this sound, but I don’t have a mandolin!
