Correct lyrics are....
Baby, I've been here before.
I know this room, I've walked this floor.
I used to live alone before I knew you.
Yeah I've seen your flag on the marble arch,
But listen, love is not some kind of victory march,
No it's a cold and it's a very broken Hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, (Hallelujah...)
There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below,
Ah but now you never show it to me, do you?
Yeah but I remember, yeah when I moved in you,
And the holy dove, she was moving too,
Yes every single breath that we drew was Hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
Maybe there's a God above,
As for me, all I've ever seemed to learn from love
Is how to shoot at someone who outdrew you.
Yeah but it's not a complaint that you hear tonight,
It's not the laughter of someone who claims to have seen the light
No it's a cold and it's a very lonely Hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
I did my best, it wasn't much.
I couldn't feel, so I learned to touch.
I've told the truth, I didn't come all this way to fool you.
Yeah even tough it all went wrong
I'll stand right here before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my lips but Hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
I can appreciate people wanting to correct any flaws they might see in the notation of a song, but for the person who criticized this version as being a mess, my response is: LETS SEE YOU DO BETTER! I've been looking for a version of this song for a while and am grateful that this person shared with us. If it is not correct then show us the way my brother.
Hey
Get along ladies. Anyone who has ever covered this song has adapted and changed the lyrics to suit their own personal inturpritation. There is no wrong way to do this song. However, you missed a chord change. Smile.
These are Leonard Cohens lyrics. Check before making comment. The alternate is a nice version but not the original.
apparently there are well over 100 verses in the original original......only Leonard knows what he meant.....we can guess
I would play,
G Em
I heard there was a secret chord
G Em
that david played and it pleased the Lord,
C D G Em
but you dont really care for music, do ya.
usw...
I clicked on the Jango radio button and was surprised to hear Leonard Cohen singing completely different words. It was the words that marti-s entered. It was a live version so I don't know if it was the original.
the missing chord over 'composing' is a bm
This version is a mess. I would scrap it and start from scratch. You're missing chord changes, chords and the lyrics are totally fumbled. The best version of this song that I've seen transcribed is here

The Jeff Buckley version. It's pretty good.
