Long Black Veil  Misc. Traditional

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

T[C(G]en years ago, on a cold dark night,
there was [G(D]someone killed 'neath the [F(C]town hall [C(G]light.
T[C(G]here were few at the scene, but they all agreed
that the[G(D] man who ran looked [F(C]a lot like[C(G] me.
------------------------------------------------

[CBORUS]
She[F(C] walks these [C(G]hills in a [F(C]long black [C(G]veil.
She [F(C]visits my [C(G]grave while the [F(C]night wind [C(G]wails.
[C(G]Nobody knows, [F(C]Nobody [C(G]sees, [F(C]Nobody [G(D]knows but[C(G] me.
------------------------------------------------

The [C(G]judge said "Son, what is your alibi?
If you w[G(D]ere somewhere else, then you [F(C]won't have to[C(G] die."
W[C(G]ell, I said not a word, though it meant my life
For I'd[G(D] been in the arms of my [F(C]best friends [C(G]wife.
------------------------------------------------

[CBORUS]
------------------------------------------------

The[C(G] scaffold was high, and eternity neared
She [G(D]stood in the crowd and [F(C]shed not a [C(G]tear.
But[C(G] sometimes at night, when the cold wind blows
In a [G(D]long black veil, she cries[F(C] over my [C(G]bones.
------------------------------------------------

[CBORUS]2x
------------------------------------------------

[C(G]Nobody knows, [F(C]Nobody [C(G]sees, [F(C]Nobody [G(D]knows but[C(G] me.

The chords are really off... plus only half of these lyrics are correct. The best version on here is by Country Gentlemen or Johnny Cash
