That sounds great as an accompaniment or intro but I think the chord progression is major D,G,D,A perhaps with that embellishment played over or throughout on a second guitar. Let me know what you think. JK
Hey man! I like the dgda sequence also. That's actually the way I learned to play it. Now after playing this version for awhile I tend to favor it. But yea usually we play this with a few friends and I believe they all have diffrent variations and chords as well. As to which one is accurate I have no idea..All of them are fun to play so that's good enough for me...lol Peace! I was told at one time that this version was correct it had just been transposed...True or not? Don't know?
These are the correct chords:
capo I
E - 022100
Asus/E - 002200
Bsus/F# - 224400
I've found that it if you play it G, C, C, G, D, it sounds pretty good
The chords, from a songbook that I am looking at:
F 1-3-3-2-1-1
Bbsus2 0-1-3-3-1-1
F 1-3-3-2-1-1
Csus X-3-3-0-1-3
Give it a try..the change from F to Csus gets easier with practice. This sounds to my ear to be how TP plays is. Enjoy.
Tom Petty plays it in the key of "F"
F~Bb~F~C however I have played it with a lot of bands in the key of "G" G~C~G~D which is better if you are just learning to play.
whats the best strum pattern???
I think this song sounds better with the capo on the second fret. =)
F in 5th pos is fingered like a D in 1st pos so everyone is right [just can't play the "lead" with a capo on the 3rd fret]
2 guitars one capoed one not is the best way to play it
just my opinion
That isn't the standard d fingering that I learned. The way you finger it makes the transition easier; but it isn't the standard fingering.
I love thissong and I love this chord progression, of all the vasriations I like this one the best, Its just a lot of fun to play.
In this vid I'll carry you through the fingering for the chords and the strum. Also included is and embellished strum that I like to play when it's only one guitar to help fill it in some. Hope you find it helpfull! Peace!
