Thats the Way that the World Goes Round

John Prine

 CF
Did you ever stand and shiver
 CGG7CFCGC
While you were staring at a river?

 C
Well I know a guy that's got a lot to lose,
 F
He's a pretty nice fellow, but he's kinda confused.
 C
He's got muscles in his head that ain't never been used,
 GG7
Thinks he owns half of this town.

 C
Starts drinkin' heavy, gets a big red nose.
 F
Beats his old lady with a rubber hose,
 C
then he takes her out to dinner, and buys her new clothes.
 GC
That's the way that the world goes 'round.

Chorus:
 C
That's the way that the world goes 'round,
 F
You're up one day, the next you're down,
 C
It's half inch of water, but you think you're gonna drown,
 G7C
That's the way that the world goes 'round.

I was sittin' in the bathtub, counting my toes,
When the radiator broke, water all froze.
I got stuck in the ice without my clothes,
Naked as the eyes of a clown.

I was crying ice cubes hoping I'd croak,
When the sun come through the window, the ice all broke.
I stood up and laughed; thought it was a joke,
That's the way that the world goes 'round.

Chorus.

Chorus.

Did you ever stand and shiver
While you were staring at a river?

That's the way that the world goes 'round. (repeat...)

Chorus.

That's the way that the world goes 'round,
That's the way that the world goes 'round.

JP plays it like this with the capo on the 5th fret. These lyrics aren't too good but the chords are right.
