Mississippi Squirrel Revivial  Ray Stevens

[C]When I was a kid we'd [A7]take a trip, every s[D7]ummer down to Mississipi
To v[F]isit my Grannie and her [G]Anti Bellum [C]World.  [G7]   [C]
Well, I'd run barefooted all day long, climbing trees, free as a song
And one day I happen to catch myself a squirrel.
Well, I [F]stuffed him down in an old shoe box, and [C]punched couple of
holes in the top
And when [D7]Sunday came, I snuck him into c[G]hurch.
Well, I was s[C]itting way back in the v[A7]ery last pew,s[D7]howin him to my good
buddy Hugh
When that s[F]quirrel got loose and went t[G]otally bezerk!
Well,  what[Am] happened next is hard to tell,
some thought it was heaven, others thought it was hell,
but the fact that something was among us was plain to see

As the choir sang "I Surrender All", the squirrel ran up Harv Newman's
coveralls
and he [D7]jumped to his feet and shouted "Something's got a hold of (G]
me!" YOW!

Chorus:
The day the s[C]quirrel went bezerk
in the [D7]First Self Righteous Church,
    In the [F]sleepy little [G]town of Pasquag[C]ulla. [G7]
It was a [C]fight for survival, that [D7]broke out in revival
They were [F]jumping pews and shouting  [C]"Hallejulleh!

Well, Harv hit the aisles dancing and a screaming
Some thought he had religion, others thought he had a demon,
But Harv thought he had a weed-eater loose in his "fruit of the looms"
He fell to his knees to plead and beg and the squirrel ran out his
britches leg
Unobserved to the other side of the room.
Well, it ran on down to the Amen pew where sat Sister Bertha Better than
you
Who'd been watchin all the commotion with sadistic glee.
Well, you should of seen the look in her eyes when that squirrel jumped
her garters and crossed her thighs
And she jumped to her feet and shouted "LORD HAVE MERCY ON ME"
As the squirrel made laps inside her dress
She began to cry and then to confess
To sins that would make a sailor blush with shame.
She told of gossip and church dessention, but the thing that got the most
attention
Is when she talked about her love life and then she started naming names!

Chorus

Well, seven deacons and the pastor got saved and twenty-five thousand
dollars got raised and fifty volunteered for missions in the Congo on the spot.
And even without an invitation, there were at least five hundred
rededications, and we all got rebaptized whether we needed it or not.
Now, you've heard the Bible story I guess, how he parted the waters so
Moses could pass.
Oh, The miracles God has wrought in this oleworld
But the one I'll remember to my dying day, is how He put that church back on
the narrow way
With one half crazed Mississipi Squirrel.
