Jingle Bell Rock  Bobby Helms

Jingle Bell Rock -- Bobby Helms
NOTE:
Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms represents the traditional version
of this Christmas classic. Once again, the current online versions
do not flow well for the flat-picked acoustic guitar. This arrangement
utilizes a chordal progression to enhance the traditional vocal track.
Note in the first line the F#m chord in place of a Dm7, and the use
of the A7sus2 as a prelude to the A chord. The E7 and the E77 chords
are different, and chosen to enhance drama in the "rock" blues progression.
(traditional rock 'n roll can be characterized as a repetitive melodic
shift over a 12 bar progression). The rock feel is also enhanced by
the electric form of the A chord --using the index finger to fret
strings 2-4 while muting the high e. The (D Db D D#) chord shift is
played by slurring the D chord along the fretboard. Also, the Gm chord
is played in the same manner as the F#m by using the thumb to catch the
bottom E string. Note however that for the F#m chord, the 5th string
rings an open A, but in the Gm chord, the thumb mutes the 5th string.
