Standard tuning
Comments: This song has some serious dissonances. Hell, it starts out with
a B against a Bb. Doesn¥t get much worse than that. That half-step interval
plays a central role in the song as it returns later, albeit in a slightly
different dress, in Rhy. Fig 6. In this case it functions as a flattened
ninth though. The trick to this riff is to play the last part, where it
alternates back and forth in quarter-notes, as if these were actually eight-
notes with rests. See, the B5 part of the chord, 2nd fret 5th string and 4th
fret 4th string, should ring the whole time but the top note, B and C
respectively, should not. To do that, finger the chord as you normally would.
Then let the first finger kind of barre behind the others but damping the
strings instead. This way you can pull off the top note to the dampened
string causing the top note to sound only on every other eight note while
the bottom part of the chord rings continuously. It¥s and easy technique
when you see it but kind of hard to explain. Hope I made my point.
