I've only been playing guitar for about six months, so the likelihood
of me screwing up the harmonic dictation of this song is rather
   high. I think I got pretty close though. Jimmy plays it in E Major;
not sure if he uses a capo or not, but I did. So, for this
arrangement, use a capo on fret 2... unless you feel like playing it a
whole step lower or go through the hassle of transposing the entire
thing. Feel free to e-mail me ([1] if you have
any comments or think I screwed up.

   Coastal Confessions
   Writer: Jimmy Buffett
Track 9, from the 2004 album "License to Chill)
   (D)Well I'm a tidal pool explorer

I believe that down on the beach
   Where the sea gulls preach
Is where the Chinese buried the truth.
So I (G)dig in the sand
   with my misguided hands
and if I (D)dig deep enough
Hell I just might dig it up.
   Talking about (A7)treasure
   Talking about (G)pleasure
   Talking about (D)love
Now I'm a (D)reader of the night sky
And a singer of inordinate tunes.
That's how I float across time
   Living way past my prime
Like a long lost baby's balloon.
So I hang (G)on to the string
   Work that whole gravity thing
But when my (D)space ship goes pop
Back to the earth I will drop
   Into the (A7)sea
Or the limbs of a (G)tree
Or the wings of my (D)love
   And I (A7)don't know what (G)I'm supposed to (D)do
   Maybe in(A7)vent me a (G)story or (D)two
   I've got (Bm)coastal con(F#m)fessions to (A7)make
   How bout (D)you
   How bout (D)you
(D)They say that time is like a river
And stories are the key to the past
But now I'm stuck in between
   Here at my typing machine
Trying to com e up with some words that will last.
It's so (G)easy to see that we live history
And if I (D)just find the beat
I know I land on my feet
   I always (A7) do
   Hadn't got a (G)clue
   Does it comes from a(D)bove.
   And I (A7)don't know what (G)I'm supposed to (D)do
   Maybe in(A7)vent me a (G)story or (D)two
   I've got (Bm)coastal con(F#m)fessions to (A7)make
   How bout (D)you
   How bout you
   Let's go to church, Sonny...
   (D) (G) (D) (Bm) (F#m) (A7) (D)
   So (Bm)bless me, (F#m)father, yes (G)I have (D)sinned.
   (Bm)Given the (F#m)chance, I'll probably (G)do it (D)again
   I don't (Bm)need abso(F#m)lution
   Just a (G)simple so(D)lution will (A7)do.
(D)So let's talk about the future
Or the consequences of my past
I've got scars, I've got lines
   I'm not hard to define
Just an altar boy coverin' his ass.
   I know I (G)can't run and hide
But just hang on for the ride
T here will be (D)laughter and tears
As we progress through the years
   But still it's (A7)fun
   Hey I'm not (G)done
   Gonna dance 'til (D)I fall
   And I (A7)don't know what (G)I'm supposed to (D)do
   Maybe (A7)have me a (G)boat drink or (D)two
   It's just the (Bm)coastal con(F#m)fessions I (A7)hear
   Tell the (D)truth
   Tell the truth
   I've got some (Bm)coastal con(A7)fessions to make
How 'bout (D)you, how 'bout you, how 'bout you, how 'bout you
And you, and you, and you
   (Hilarious Spoken Outro)
Forty-two years since my last confession
Well father, do you have the rest of the week?
   Let's get started:
   I had impure thoughts.
   I smoked some pot.
   Stole some peanut butter.
   Father, wake up.
