everything that glitters  Dan Seals

Saw your [D2]picture on a [D2/F#]poster, in a [G]cafe out in [D2]Phoenix;
Guess you're [Bm]still the sweetheart [A2]of the rode[G]o.[G]
As for [D2]me and little [D2/F#]Casey,    [G]we still make the [D2]circuit
In a [Bm]one-horse trailer [A2]and a mobile [G]home.[G]
And [Em]she still asks a[Em]bout you all the [A2]time;[A2]
And I [Em]guess we nev[Em]er even [A2]cross your [A]mind.
FIRST CHORUS:
But, oh, some[D]times I think a[D/F#]bout you, and the [G]way you used to [D]ride out
In your [D]rhinestones and your sequins, with the [A]sunlight [A4]on your [A]hair;
And, oh, the [D]crowd will always [D/F#]love you, but as for [G]me I've come to [D]know
Every[D]thing that glitt[A]ers.... [D]is [D2&4]not [D]gold.
VERSE 2:
Well, old [D]Red, he's getting [D/F#]older, and last [G]Saturday he [D]stumbled
But you [Bm]know I just can't [A2]bear to let him [G]go.[G]
Little [D]Casey, she's still [D/F#]growing, and she's [G]started asking [D]questions
And there's [Bm]certain things a [A2]man just doesn't [G]know.[G]
[Em]Her birthday came and you [Em]never even [A2]called;[A2]
I [Em]guess we nev[Em]er cross your [A2]mind at [A]all.
SECOND CHORUS:
But then some[D]times I think a[D/F#]bout you, and the [G]way you used to [D]ride out
In your [D]rhinestones and your [D]sequins, with [A]the [A4]sunlight on your [A]hair;
And, oh, the [D]crowd will always [D/F#]love you, but as for [G]me I've come to [D]know
Every[D]thing that glitters[A].... [D]is [D2&4]not [D]gold.
BRIDGE:
Every[Bm]body said you'd [A]make it big some[G]day,[G]
And I [Bm]guess that we were [A]only in your [G]way.[G]
But some[D]day, I'm sure, you're [A]gonna know the [G]cost;[G]
Cause for [Em]everything you[Em] win, there's [A2]something [A]lost.
FINAL CHORUS (slowly):
But, oh, some[D]times I think a[D/F#]bout you, and the [G]way you used to [D]ride out
In your [D]rhinestones and your [D]sequins, with [A]the [A4]sunlight on your [A]hair;
And, oh, the [D]crowd will always [D/F#]love you, but as for [G]me I've come to [D]know
Every[D]thing that glitt[A]ers.... [D]is [Em]n[D/F#]ot [G]gold,           Oooooooooh
Every[D]thing that glitt[A]ers................. is not [D]gold
OUTRO (while whistling melody):
|[D2]     |[D2/F#]    |[G]      |[D2]
|[Bm]     |[A2]       |[G]      |[G]
repeat and fade...
The chord fret patterns are:
EADGBe EADGBe EADGBe
---------------------------------------------------------------

D = xx0232 D/F# = 2x0232
D2 = xx0230 D2/F# = 2x0230 D2&4 = xx0030
G = 320003 Bm = x24432 Bm/A = x04432
A = x02220 A2 = x02200 A4 = 002230
(fret 6th string with thumb to get F# bass note where required)
I like fingerpicking the whole song with an occasional strum to emphasize
chords like the A4 and D2&4 which appear for only a single beat rather than
a whole bar. I also like to use D2 and D2/F# instead of D and D/F# in the
second verse (ie. use the same chords as the first verse), although the
latter is actually correct. I often substitute Bm/A for the A chords in the
first half of the bridge. It's not what's on the recording, but I like the
sound and it's an easy transition (continue holding the Bm, but slide your
barred index finger down off the fifth string to get the A bass note).
