I respectfully disagree with soheyman. I think he's right about how Petty's playing it, but if you look at the scene from "Help" with the lads lip-synching to the song, you'll see that George is playing it in what appears to be the key of A*. BTW, this makes it very easy to do the suspended 4 & 2 chords on the A-- you can forget about add9. Also, the chord sequence in "I just can't go on anymore" is a bit off. It should be: B7 Bm (or Bm7?) E7. Notice the extra chord, Bm, which you can see George play in the above mentioned film scene.
(*= Since the song's true key is actually Ab, this means that either George and John tuned down for the song [from the fleeting glimpse or two of John playing, you can see their guitars are tuned alike] or there was a tape [recording, mastering, or both] that wasn't run at the same speed throughout the entire recording/mastering process.)

I think to sound right this song should be played with Capo on first fret and in G instead. G-C-G--G-C-G--Em-Bm-Em-Am,then C-D7-G--C-D7-A7-D7 etc. Just my opinion, Check out Tom Petty's version at 'Concert for George'.
