I Shall Believe  Sheryl Crow

I Shall Believe - Sheryl Crow
Come to me [E]now, and lay your hands [A]over me
Even if it's a [E]lie say it [C#m]will be al[B]right
And I shall be[A]lieve
I'm broken in [E]two, and I know you're [A]on to me
That I only come [E]home when I'm [C#m]so all a[B]lone
But I do be[A]lieve[E]
That not [C#m]everything is gonna [B]be the way you think it [A]ought to be
It seems like [C#m]every time I try to [B]make it right it all comes [A]down on me
Please say[C#m] honest[B]ly you won't [F#]give up on me[A]
And I shall be[E]lieve[A], and I shall be[E]lieve[A]
Open the door and show me your face tonight
I know it's true, no one heals me like you
And you hold the key
Never again would I turn away from you
I'm so heavy tonight, but your love is alright
And I do believe
That not everything is gonna be the way you think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right it all comes down on me
Please say honestly you won't give up on me
And I shall believe, I shall believe
And I shall believe
(Same chords as chorus)
That not everything is gonna be the way you think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right it all comes down on me
Please say honestly you won't give up on me
And I shall believe, I shall believe
I shall believe, I shall believe
I shall believe, and I shall believe
C#m B A (hold)
Please say honestly you won't give up on me...
And I shall believe. (x15)
.............
Another song that demonstrates the power of underplaying.
One acoustic guitar does this -
[+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+]

 |-------------|-------------|
 |-------------|-------------|
 |-------------|-------------| (repeat ad infinitum)
 |-4---4-2-----|-4---4-2-----|
 |-------------|-------------|
 |-------------|-------------|

throughout. One electric with its tone control turned down does this -

 (-------------Intro-------------)

[+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+]

 |-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-2-----|
 |-2-----|-2-----|-2-----|-------|-2-----|-2-----|-2-----|-2-----|-0-----|
 |-0-----|-0-----|-0-----|-------|-0-----|-0-----|-0-----|-0-----|-------|

(etc) throughout with plam muting - follow the chords, obviously. The only
variation in this is on the F# chord in the chorus -
[+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+]

 |-------|-------|-------|-------|
 |-------|-------|-------|-------|

 |-------|-------|-2-----|-------|

 |-2-2-2-|-2-2-2-|-------|-------|

There is also another part which I think is a guitar, but a pretty strange
sounding one. I suspect that it must be using a volume pedal or else some
kind of sustaining device like an E-bow, a Fernandes sustainer pickup or
good old fashioned compression. Once again, it's wonderfully underplayed,
so tabbing it out completely would be pointless.
However, it comes in on the second half of the first verse and goes
something like this -
[+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+]

 |-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|

 |-------|-------|-------|-------|-7-----|-------|-------|-------|
 |-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|
 |-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|

The first half of the second verse goes like this -
[+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+]

 |-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|

 |-------|-------|-------|-------|-7-----|-------|-------|-------|
 |-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|
 |-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|

The first chorus and link into the third verse go like this -
[+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+] [+]

The solo goes like this -

 |-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|

Finally, note that any of the guitars can simulate the hammond organ intro
by doing this -
(NH - natural harmonics)
