Lyrics:
Cos' it's a bittersweet symphony this life...
Trying to make ends meet , you're a slave to the money then you die.
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down...
You know the one that takes you to the places where all the pain lives ,
yeah.
No change, I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould , I am here in my mould.
But I'm a million different people from one day to the next...
I can't change my mould , no,no,no,no,no,no,no
Well I never pray,
But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognise the pain in me, yeah.
I let the melody shine, let it cleanze my mind , I feel free now.
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now.
No change, I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould , I am here in my mould.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mould, no,no,no,no,no,no,no
(Well have you ever been down?)
(I can change, I can change...)
Cos' it's a bittersweet symphony this life.
Trying to make ends meet, trying to find some money then you die.
You know I can change, I can change, I can change,
but I'm here in my mould, I am here in my mould.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next.
I can't change my mould, no,no,no,no,no,no,no
(I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down)
(I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down)
(It justs sex and violence melody and silence)
(Been down)
(Ever been down)
(Ever been down)

BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY (The Verve) (From "Urban Hymns" CD)
Transcribed by: Thomas Poynton <tom@poyntons.u-net.com>
This is a quite radical version for the acoustic guitar of this spellbinding
song, which I worked out as soon as I got the single last year.
E E/A? [Dadd11] /A? A
e -----0-----0-----0-----0----- B -----0-----0-----3-----2----- G -----1-----2-----2-----2----- D -----2-----2-----4-----2----- A -----2-----2-----0-----0----- E -----0-----0-----X-----X-----
Repeat these 3 chords through the whole song in time to the string hook,
adding hammer-on`s on the G string on the "E" chord if you want-I think it
sounds quite good.
If recording, you could dub over the "A" chord, this chord:
e -----0----- B -----10---- G -----9----- D -----11---- A -----0----- E -----x-----
The string parts: (Perhaps for slide guitar- I can`t play slide yet, so get
a group together and play it and tell me how it sounds)
D -------------------------------------------------------------------- A -------2-------------------5-------5---4-------4-------------------- E ---4-------4---5---0---5-------5-----------5------------------------ e -------------------------------------------------------------------- B -------0-------------------3-------3---2-------2-------------------- G ---1-------1---2-------2-------2-----------2------------------------ D -------------------2------------------------------------------------ A -------------------------------------------------------------------- E -------------------------------------------------------------------- E -----7----------------------10--------10---9--------9---------------- B ---9---9---9---10-------10-------10------------10-------------------- G --------------------9------------------------------------------------ D ---------------------------------------------------------------------
For electric (or slide?), the cool riff as the song fades out:
G ---12---12---12---9---12---9---12--- etc, etc (Just ad-lib it really)
The keyboard bit at the beginning:
G ---1---2---1---2----- Over and over again
And the cello sounding bit:
E ---12---7---10---5--- Over and over again.
Enjoy!
