I updated this (3-01-08) to reflect Dando's change-up in chords through the song. Most every tab I found repeats the same progression throughout the song, and that leaves the song short of its real beauty. At points he walks down to the Eb instead of the Dm, and you might arguably say he resolves with the G rather than the Gm the final time.
Also, Dando capos the third fret in the tune so his F is played in the D position to start the song. This allows for some of the pull offs you'll hear in the song, and lends to easier impact as you walk down to the Eb now in the C and on position. Actually, playing with the D position (no capo) sounds pretty good if its in your register to sing. Give it a try by transposing down 3-semitones using that function at right of the tab and lyrics.
Also, be sure to not waste (strum all of) your low strings until you need them. In other words, a great deal of Evan's magic in this tune is that he goes through the first verse never hitting the low E string and barely using the A. Then when it gets to the verse "There comes a smile on her face," there is a low-end dynamic that really adds darkness / impact. (Generally -- for you beginners and intermediates, that's something to keep in mind in many songs on which you just can't quite sound right even though you're playing the right chords. Same thing for you songwriters. Dynamics and Depth are key -- don't forget, to appreciate many sounds you need to have silence for reference. That applies to the register as well. Don't throw it all out at once!
