#ACES
#
#
#This transcription is derived from a letter I received from Cheryl
#back in 1987 after I'd written to her asking for some help with this song,
#so I'm taking that as a pretty good indication of its accuracy.
#It's not 100% reflective of the version on the 1990 release of Circles
#& Arrows, since it's based on how she was playing it three years
#earlier, but it's pretty close, except for the fact that in the earlier
#version, the second chorus ended with slightly different lyrics:
#
#We tried from the beginning
#So I can't believe the end
#Don't let me hear you sayin' I am not your friend

#During the intro and the first line of each verse, you should walk up from

#Also, during first and third lines of the two bridge sections, where
#I've indicated the asterisks, you should transition into the (Em) with a

#This is one of those instances where you should listen to the CD and

Intro: (Am)(C)(D)(Gmaj7)
I wish I could (Am)fa(C)ll in (D/F#)love
Though it (Gmaj7)only leads to trouble, oh I (C)know it does
(C/B)Still I'd (Am)fool myself and (Am/G)gladly just to (D/F#)feel I was

(C/B)And I've (Am)never known a (Am/G)softer warmer (D/F#)feeling since

But maybe these (Am)dreams are (C)leading (D/F#)me
Maybe (Gmaj7)love is not as gentle as my (C)memory
(C/B)Maybe (Am)time and wishful (Am/G)half-remembered (D/F#)fantasy

Oh, but I re*mem**ber (Em)you in the (A7)TV (D/F#)light

GANDHI/BUDDHA

Capo II
Note: The (Am7)(Am7/B)(C) progression in the last line of the chorus is a fifth-string walk-up.
Intro: (G)(D/F#) . . . (G)(D/F#)
Feel this (G)wind blow, (Em)scatters all these (C)leaves like paper (D/F#)rain
Feel these (G)days roll (Em)back into our (C)winter lives a(D/F#)gain
The (Em7)tangle at the (C)garden fence is (D)brown and dry
You (Em7)call me out and (C)point to your No(D)vember sky
CHORUS:

I musta done (Am7)something(Am7/B) (C)great to (D/F#)get to have (G)you (D/F#) (G)(D/F#)
And when the (G)cold comes and (Em)you are by your (C)fire and fast a(D/F#)sleep

Many's the (Am7)forest (Am7/B)I can't (D/F#)see
I was so (Am7)down and (Am7/B)lost and (D/F#)fading (G)fast
How did you (Em7)find your (C)way to (D/F#)me?
I musta been (G)Gandhi or Buddha or (D/F#)someone like that
I musta saved (C)lives by the hundreds (D/F#)everywhere I went

I musta done (Em7)something(C) (G)great

HOWL AT THE MOON

Capo II
This is a pretty simple three chord song. In the body of the transcription, I'll
refer to the chords as (G), (C) and (D) for simplicity's sake, although they're actually (Gadd9),
(Cadd9) and (D/F#) and played as indicated. You can, of course, play them in their
standard form if you like.
Gadd9: 32020x (or standard G: 320003)
Cadd9: x3203x (or standard C: x32010)
D/F#: 20023x (or standard D: x00232)
Intro: (G)(D)(C)(D)
If (G)I were maybe a (D)wolf or a dog
I (C)wouldn't have to speak
(D)Wouldn't have to talk
Just (G)eat my dinner and (D)go for a walk
And (C)ho(D)wl at the (G)moon
And if (G)I were laying there (D)just like you
(C)All curled up the (D)way dogs do
I'd (G)dream that dream that you're (D)dreamin' too
And (C)ho(D)wl at the (C)moon
(C)Ho(D)wl at the (G)moon
(C)Ho(D)wl at the (G)moon
And if (G)I could carry your (D)black and white
(C)Sleep so sound (D)wake so nice
I'd (G)keep real close to my (D)own advice
And (C)ho(D)wl at the (G)moon
Oh, (C)you know something (D)I don't know
(C)You go places (D)I can't go
You (G)lift your head when the (D)breezes blow
To (C)voices older than (D)time
I'll (G)keep you close
Oh, I (D)like you near
I'll (C)touch your head and (D)pull your ear
And (G)watch you resting while (D)I sit here
And (C)ho(D)wl at the (G)moon
(C)Ho(D)wl at the (G)moon
(C)Ho(D)wl at the (G)moon
(C)Ho(D)wl at the (G)moon
I'll (G)watch you resting while (D)I sit here
And (C)ho(D)wl at the (G)moon

LITTLE KIDS

This hysterical song is not on any of Cheryl's CDs.
But I do have a videotape of her singing it on the old show

The (D)pets have re(G)turned and this (A)weekend I've (D)learned
Little (G)children are (A)nothing like (Dsus4)us(D)
'Cause (A)they put their food in ri(G)diculous (D)places
And (A)they leave their fingerprints (G)on their own (A)faces
Oh (D)how could you (G)say we all (A)started this (D)way?
You (G)know I just (A)love little (Dsus4)kids(D)
Little (A)kids, get up (G)way before (D)me
Little (A)kids, leave a (G)trail of de(A)bris
And they (Dsus4)run through my (D)house
And they (G)torment my dogs
And I (A)surely do love little (D)kids (Dsus2)(D)

MRS. PINOCCI'S GUITAR

I've captured this transcription by watching Cheryl's concert video
What Do I Care I Don't Have Any Kids Construction Company Inc.
so I'm relatively certain I've got it right. The only difference
is that she does it Capo IV on the video and does it two frets higher
on the CD.
Capo VI
Intro: (D)(A)(G)(D)
(D)Diane and (A)Billy (G)been friends for(D)ever
They go back a (D/C#)long time
They (G)grew up to(A)gether
(G)She called to (D/F#)tell us
He'd (Em)written from (D/F#)Rome
For the (G)whole month of (D/F#)August
(G)He'd be at (A)home
So (D)we went to (A)see him
At (G)her house one (D)evening
In the place where they'd (D/C#)spent all their (G)summers as (A)kids
We (G)walked all a(D/F#)round
In the (Em)small bay side (D/F#)town
Where his (G)Dad's called the (D/F#)bingo for (G)thirty-five (A)years
And (D)later on that (A)night
(G)Under the (D)porch light
Mrs. Pi(D/C#)nocci brought (G)her six-string (A)over
She (G)said she'd been (D/F#)playin' since she (Em)turned fifty-(D/F#)seven
And (G)now I guess (D/F#)she's more than (G)twenty years (A)older
She (D)played Yankee (A)Doodle (G)we sang along (D)with her
She passed it a(D/C#)round and we (G)all played a (A)number
(G)Neighbors and (D/F#)friends dropped (Em)by for the (D/F#)singin'
And (G)later a (D/F#)guy no one (G)knew came to (A)sit in
For the (G)moon on the (D)water
For the (G)light from the (D)stars
Oh (G)I thank the (D)spirits
What(Em)ever they (A)are
For (G)friendships that (D)last
And (Bm)songs from (A)the (G)past
And (Em)Mrs. (A)Pinocci's (D)guitar
(G)(D) . . .(G)(D) . . . (G)(D) . . .(Em)(A)
(G)(D) . . . (Bm)(A)(G) . . .
And (Em)Mrs. (A)Pinocci's (D)guitar

ONE LOVE

I've had several requests for this song, but have never made a serious attempt at transcribing it
because – as Cheryl mentions in the liner notes to Mrs. Pinocci's Guitar – it's in a pretty
bizarre tuning: FGDGCD. But I love a challenge, so here it is. First, here's how to get to the tuning:
1. Turn the low E (6th) string up to F
2. Turn the low A (5th) string down to G
3. Turn the high B (2nd) string up to C (carefully!)
4. Turn the high E (1st) string down to D
I'm not exactly sure what the chords are called, but in playing around with a guitar in standard tuning,
they seem to be variations of chords in the key of C, so that's how I'll
describe them here. There are some chords in the bridge section I just
can't figure out the name for, so for those, I'll just show the fingering.
C: x55000
C/B: x45000
F: x23000
G: 203000
G/B: x40020
C/addE: x55040
G7: x0555x (This is really just a transition chord at 2:21 and 2:25 after the second chorus.
It's also the chord that ends the song.)
In the second sequence of the intro, and in the verses, between the (C)
and (C/B) chords, slide the finger that's on the 5th fret of the 5th string
up to the 7th fret as a transitional grace note. Listen to the CD and you'll hear what I mean.
Intro: (C)(C/B)(F)(G) . . . (C)(C/B)(F)(G)
Everywhere I (C)turn(C/B) everyone is (F)lost in this (G)thing
'Cause something feels (C)gone (C/B)
Life is nothing like we (F)dreamed it might (G)be (F)(G/B)
And we (C/addE)don't move (F)forward (G/B)
(C/addE)Can't move (F)back (G/B)
We (C/addE)hold our (F)hands out hoping (G)for that
(C/addE)One love that's (C/B)all of it
(F)Deep nights and (G)qui(F)et (G/B)days
(C/addE)Long lovers, (C/B)old comforts
(F)Feel like some (G)ball (F)and (G/B)chain (C)(C/B)(F)(G)
I guess we're really gettin' (C)old (C/B)
Always worrying we're (F)wasting our (G)time
Wantin' somethin' new to (C)hold (C/B)
Some affair would be the (F)perfect (G)crime (F)(G/B)
(C/addE)Long roads (F)crumble (G/B)
For(C/addE)evers fall a(F)part (G/B)
One (C/addE)day we (F)don't know why we're (G)so far from
(C/addE)One love that's (C/B)all of it
(F)Deep nights and (G)qui(F)et (G/B)days
(C/addE)Long lovers, (C/B)old comforts
(F)Feel like some (G)ball (F)and (G/B)chain (C)(C/B)(F)(G)
(G7)(C/addE)(C/B)(G7)(F)(G/B)
And if (x22200)I want you and you want me
(x03003)We'll call it (x02000)love though it (G/B)might not be
(x22200)Hearts on fire, (x33300)souls in line
(x03003)Oh just to (x02000)know that
(G/B)Just to (F)feel that (G/B)one more (F)time (G/B)(20305x)
Seems impossible to (C)know (C/B)
What is real and what is (F)just some restless (G)thing
And our hearts learn (C)slow (C/B)
All the miseries (F)bad choices (G)bring (F)(G/B)
So is it (C/addE)wise or (F)lazy (G/B)
Holding (C/addE)tight to what you've (F)known (G/B)
And is it (C/addE)brave or (F)crazy searching (G)for some
(C/addE)One love that's (C/B)all of it
(F)Deep nights and (G)qui(F)et (G/B)days
(C/addE)Long lovers, (C/B)old comforts
(F)Feel like some (G)ball (F)and (G/B)chain
(C/addE)One love that's (C/B)all of it
(F)Deep nights and (G)qui(F)et (G/B)days
(C/addE)Long lovers, (C/B)old comforts
(F)Feel like some (G)ball (F)and (G/B)chain
(C/addE)(C/B)(F)(G)-(F)-(G/B)
(C/addE)(C/B)(F)(G)-(F)-(G/B)
(C/addE)(C/B)(F)(G)-(F)-(G/B) . . . (G7)

PARADISE IN TROUBLED WATERS

Intro: (C)(F)(G) . . . (F)(C) . . . (F)(G)
(F)Winter's voice had (G)barely spoken
(Em)Everyone was (F)bummed and broken
Hangin' on to (G)threads the way we (C)do (F)(G)
(F)Shielding eyes from (G)TV screens
With (Em)African starv(F)ation scenes
And photographs in (G)magazines
Of (F)things that (G)can't seem (C)true (F)(G)
Oh(F)Para(C)dise in troubled waters
(F)Situation (G)grim
And (F)we the (C)reckless sons and daughters
(F)Spread the luck so (G)thin
Oh the (C)gross results and chain reaction
(F)Too late under(G)stood
(F)Leave us in embar(G)rassed silence
(F)Wishing that we (G)could
Make the (C)difference, see the light
Carry the (F)flag, lead the (G)fight
Save the (C)whales, save the seals
Save the (F)trees and birds and (G)fields
And save each (F)ot(C)her (F)(G) . . . (C)(F)(G)
So we (F)read the news with (G)helpless eyes
And (Em)look for ways to (F)compromise
But mostly we just (G)do the best we (C)can (F)(G)
Is it (F)just a part of (G)what we are
To (Em)want too much and (F)go too far
And contemplate with (G)no regard
What (F)we don't (G)under(C)stand (F)(G)
Oh (F)Para(C)dise in troubled waters
(F)Situation (G)grim
And (F)we the (C)reckless sons and daughters
(F)Spread the luck so (G)thin
Oh the (C)gross results and chain reaction
(F)Too late under(G)stood
(F)Leave us in embar(G)rassed silence
(F)Wishing that we (G)could
Make the (C)difference, see the light
Carry the (F)flag, lead the (G)fight
Save the (C)whales, save the seals
Save the (F)trees and birds and (G)fields
And save each (F)ot(C)her (F)(G)
Oh . . . (F)Para(C)dise in troubled waters . . .

The (Em)(D/F#)(G)(C) sequence is a bass-line walk-up. The chords are
