Sound of silence Simon & Garfunkel
SOUND OF SILENCE
1[a]. Hallo darkness, my old fr[G]iend, I`ve come to talk to you ag[a]ain,
because a v[C]ision softly i[F]s creep[C]ing, left its seeds while I w[F]as sleep[C]ing,
and the v[F]ision that was planted in my br[C]ain, still rem[a]ains,
within the s[G]ound of s[a]ilence.
2. [a] In restless dreams I walked al[G]one, narrow streets of cobble-st[a]one.
`Neath the h[C]alo of [F]a street l[C]amp, I turned my collar to the c[F]old and d[C]amp,
when my e[F]yes were stabbed by the flash of a neon li[C]ght,
that split the n[a]ight - and touched the s[G]ound of s[a]ilence.
3. [a] And in the naked light I s[G]aw, ten thousand people, maybe m[a]ore,
people t[C]alking with[F]out speak[C]ing , people hearing with[F]out listen[C]ing,
people writing s[F]ongs that voices never sh[C]are,
and no-one d[a]are - disturb the s[G]ound so s[a]ilence.
4.[a] Fools, said I, you do not kn[G]ow, silence like a cancer gr[a]ows,
hear my w[C]ords, that I m[F]ight teach y[C]ou, take my arms that I m[F]ight reach y[C]ou,
F C - a ~ G a
But my words like silent raindrops fell - and echoed in the wells of silence.
5.[a] And the people bowed and pr[G]ayed to the neon god they`d m[a]ade.
And the s[C]ign flashed out i[F]ts warn[C]ing, in the words that it w[F]as form[C]ing.
And the sign said, the w[F]ords of the prophets are written
in the subway w[C]alls, and tenement h[a]alls ,
and whispered in the s[G]ound - of s[a]ilence.
