Riding With Private Malone  David Ball

[E]I was just out of the service thumbin' through the classifieds
When an [A]ad that said old chevy somehow caught my eye
[E]The Lady didn't know the year or even if it ran
but I [A]had that thousand [B]dollars in my [E]hand.
[E]It was way back in the corner of this old ramshakled barn
With t[A]hirty years of dust and dirt on that green army tarp
and [B]when I pulled the cover off, [A]It took away my breath
what she called a chevy was a [B]'66 Corv[E]ette
I f[F#m7]elt a little guilty as I [B]counted out the bills
but [E]what a [F#m7]thrill I got when I [A]sat behind the [B]wheel.
[E]I opened up the glove box and that?s when I found the note
The d[A]ate was 1966 t[B]his is what he w[E]rote
CHORUS:
He said my n[C#m7]ame is [B]Private [A]Andrew [B]Malone
and if y[C#m7]ou?re reading [B]this then I [A]didn't make it [B]home
But for [G#m7]every dream they [C#m7]shattered, an[F#m7]other one comes [B]true
this c[F#m7]ar was once a dream of mine [B]back when it was new
and [C#m7]though you may [B]take her and [A]make her your [G#m7]own
[F#m7]You'll always be rid-[B]ing with Private Ma[E]lone.

Well it didn?t take me long at all I had her runnin' good
I loved to hear those horses thunder underneath her hood
I had her shining like a diamond and I'd put the ragtop down
All the pretty girls would stop and stare as I drove her though town
The buttons on the radio didn?t seem to work quite right
but it picked up that oldies show especially late at night
I'd get the feelin' sometimes if I turned real quick I'd see
a soldier ridin' shotgun in the seat right next to me...
REPEAT CHORUS
[F#m7]One night it was rainin' hard and I [B]took the curve to fast
[E]I still don?t [F#m7]remember much [A]about the fiery [B]crash
[E]Someone said they thought they saw a soldier pull me out
they [A]didn?t get his name, but [B]I know without a [E]doubt...
