Geno  Dexy's Midnight Runners

[C#]Back in sixty, the [B]weight of his work at de [C#]club (oh Ge[B]no)
??? [C#]Jimmy's my scene and the [B]rocksteady rub [C#]   (oh [B]Geno)
On a [B]night when flowers didn't [F#m]suit my tune,
After a [B]week of longing, I'm [F#m]back in school,
Ge[B]no is heading the [F#m]crowd that night
A-just a-[B]?????? his ??????? and keeping [F#m]out of the fights.
[A]Academic [E]inspiration, [B]you gave me [F#]none,
[A]You were Mi[E]chael the lover, [B]the fighter that [F#]won,
[A]But now just [E]look at me as I'm a-[B]looking down on [F#]you,
[A]No I'm not [E]being flash it's what[B] I'm built to [F#]do.
[C#]
C# B (x2)

[C#]That man took the [B]stage, his towel swinging [C#]high (oh Ge[B]no)
[C#]This man was my [B]bombers, my dexys, my [C#]highs      (oh [B]Geno)
Oh, the [B]crowd they all hailed you, and [F#m]chanted your name,
But they never [B]knew, like we knew, me and [F#m]you were the same,
And [B]now you're all over, your [F#m]sound is so tame,
Brrrrrr[B]i, you fed me and plainly I'll re[F#m]member your name,

[A]Academic [E]inspiration, [B]you gave me [F#]none,
[A]You were Mi[E]chael the lover, [B]the fighter that [F#]won,
[A]But now just [E]look at me as I'm a-[B]looking down on [F#]you,
[A]No I'm not [E]being flash it's [B]what I'm built to [F#]do.

Chords sound great - love this song! The first verse lyrics are:

Back in 68 in a sweaty club (oh Geno)
Before Jimmy's machine and the rocksteady rub (oh Geno)
On a night when flowers didn't suit my shoes
After a week of flunking and bunking school
The lowest head in the crowd that night
Just practicing steps and keeping out of the fights.

(it took me ages to realise that these words on the single sleeve were actually the lyrics - Kevin certainly has an individual style of delivery)
