Breakdown  Jack Johnson

[G]  I hope this old [Bm]train breaks down
[Em]  Then I could take a [D]walk around
[G]  And see what there [Bm]is to see
[Em]  And time is just a [D]melody
Well all the [G]people in the street
Walk as [Bm]fast as their feet can take them
[Em]I just roam through [D]town
And though my [G]windows got a view
Well the [Bm]frame I’m looking through
Seems to [Em]have no concern for me [D]now, so for now I
CHORUS:
[G]  I, [D/F#]need this her[Em]e old train to [D]breakdown
[G]  Oh, [D/F#]please jus[Em]t let me please [D]breakdown

||: G | Bm | Em | D :||

[G]  This engine [Bm]screams out loud
[Em]  Sayin’ the beat gonna [D]crawl westbound
[G]  So I don’t even [Bm]make a sound
Caus[Em]e it’s gonna sting me when I [D]leave this town
All the [G]people in the street
That I'll [Bm]never get to meet
If [Em]these don’t bend some[D]how

And [G]I got no time that [Bm]I got to get to
[Em]Where I don’t need to [D]be, so I
(CHORUS TWICE)

| G | D11 C | G |
I wanna break on down
| D11 C | G | D11 C | G | D11 C |
But I can’t stop now Let me break on down

But you [G]can’t stop nothing if you [Bm]got no control
Of the [Em]thoughts in your mind that you [D]kept in, you know
You [G]don’t know nothing, but you [Bm]don’t need to know
The [Em]wisdom’s in the trees, not the [D]glass windows
You [G]can’t stop wishing if you [Bm]don’t let go
But [Em]things that you find and you [D]lose, and you know
You [G]keep on rolling put the [Bm]moment on hold
The [Em]frames too bright so put the [D]blinds down low

(CHORUS TWICE)

| G | D/F# | Em | D | G | D/F#
I wanna break on down
| Em | D ||: G | D/F# | Em | D :|| G . . .
But I can’t stop now

And, if you're too cheap to have a capo lying around like me, use the "transpose" feature on the right to transpose the chords as shown to +5 semi-tones. The first chord should now be a C. Sounds pretty good this way too, IMHO.

To match the JJ recording, these chords [G, Bm, Em D...] are played with a capo on the fifth fret.

I love playing and sing this song; it's fantastic! Heard it in the background a few years ago at a festival and it snared me and wouldn't let go.
