BLACK VELVET BAND  Misc. Traditional

In a n[G]eat little town they call Belfast apprenticed to trade I was b[D]ound
And m[G]any an hour of sweet h[Em]appiness I s[C]pent in that n[D]eat little t[G]own
Till b[G]ad misfortune came over me and caused me to stray from the l[D]and
Far aw[G]ay from me friends and re[Em]lations me f[C]ollowed the Bl[D]ack Velvet B[G]and
Her e[G]yes they shown like the diamonds
You'd think she was queen of the l[D]and
And her h[G]air hung over her sh[Em]oulder
Tied [C]up with a Bl[D]ack Velvet B[G]and
Well [G]I went out strolling one evening not meaning to go very [D]far
When I m[G]et with a fickle-some d[Em]amsel she was pl[C]ying her t[D]rade in a [G]bar
When a w[G]atch she took from a cutomer and slipped it right into me h[D]and
And the l[G]aw it came and ar[Em]rested me bad l[C]uck to your Bl[D]ack Velvet B[G]and
This m[G]ornin' before judge and jury a trial I had to app[D]ear
And the j[G]udge he says "me young f[Em]ellow" the c[C]ase against y[D]ou is quite cl[G]ear
And se[G]ven long years is your sentence you're going to Van Daemons L[D]and
Far a[G]way from your friends and r[Em]elations and f[C]ollow the B[D]lack Velvet B[G]and
So c[G]ome all ye jolly young fellows I'll have you take warnin' from [G]me
When[G]ever you're into the [Em]liquor me lads be[C]ware of the p[D]retty coll[G]een
For they'll f[G]ill you with whiskey and porter till you are not able to st[D]and
And the v[G]ery next thing that you k[Em]now me lads you've l[C]anded in V[D]an Daemon's L[G]and

Irish1 (report)

I think the G ir right.
Here are the word I grew up on fifty years ago song by my irish family. Take em or leave em!

Well, I was out strolling one evening not meaning to go very far
When I met with a pretty young maid who was selling her trade in the bar.
She was both fair and handsome, her neck it was just like a swans
And her hair it hung over her shoulder, tied up with a black velvet band
Chorus
I took a stroll with this pretty fair maid, and a gentleman passing us
Well I knew she meant the doing of him, by the look in her roguish black eye
A gold watch she took from his pocket and placed it right in to my hand
And the very first thing that I said was bad luck to the black velvet band
Chorus
Before the judge and the jury, next morning I had to appear
The judge he says to me: "Young man, your case it is proven clear
We'll give you seven years penal servitude, to be spent faraway from the land
Far away from your friends and companions, betrayed by the black velvet band"
Chorus
So come all you jolly young fellows a warning take by me
When you are out on the town me lads, beware of them pretty colleen
For they feed you with strong drink, "Oh yeah", 'til you are unable to stand
And the very next thing that you'll know is you've landed in Van Diemens Land
Chorus

"So come all ye jolly young fellows I'll have you take warnin' from me"

It should be a D om the last word there, not a G.
