OK on first part [C/G/F/C/G] ==but== when it goes to, "You weren't your mama's only boy ...", try the chord progression of F/C/F/Am/F/G/F/Am.
Ditto chord progression for the "And all the Ferderales say.... " .
The A minor usage, IMO, and that quick F to G in, as an example, "you said [F] .. goodbye [G].. " is important in this song both playing and singing. The A minor usage in particular.
