Mr. Bojangles  Folk Songs

[C]I knew a man, Boj[C/B]angles, and he d[Am]anced for you, [F]in worn out s[G]hoes
[C]With silver hair [C/B]a ragged shirt &[Am] baggy pants, t[F]he old soft s[G]hoe
[F]He jumped so h[C]igh, ju[E7]mped so h[Am]igh, th[D7]en he lightly touched [Dm7]down [G7]
[Am]Mr. Boja[G]ngles[Am], Mr. Bojan[G]gles[Am], Mr. Boj[G]angles, d[C]an[C/B]ce  [Am]   [G]  [F]
I met him in a cell in New Orleans, I was down and out
He looked to me to be the eyes of age, as he spoke right out
He talked of life, & as he talked of life
He laughed, slapped his leg a step
Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, dance

He said his name 'Bojangles' and he danced a lick
Across the cell
He grabbed his pants, a better stance he jumped up high
He clicked his heels
He let go a laugh, let go a laugh
Shook back his clothes all around
Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, dance

He said 'I dance now at every chance in Honky Tonks
for drinks and tips'
But most the time I spend behind these County bars
he said 'I drink's a bit'
He shook his head and as he shook his head
I heard someone ask please
Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, dance

For the verses, instead of C C/B Am F G, I add a G in between Am and F. It seems to complete the bass line as I remember it.

The song is by JJ Walker and is not a Trad. song

I use this good set of chords but without a capo.

Missing a verse:
He daced for those at minstrel shows
and county fairs through out the south
He spoke with tears of fiteen years
how his dog and he had traveled about.
His dog up and died, yes he up and died.
After twenty years he still grieved.
Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bogangles, Dance.
