Me and bobby mcgee  Kris Kristofferson

B[C]usted flat in Baton Rouge, headin' for the train
Feelin' nearly faded as my [G7]jeans
Bobby thumbed a diesel down,

Just before it rained
Took us all the way to New [C]Orleans

[C]I took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna
And was blowing sad while [C7]Bobby sang the [F]blues

With those windshield wipers slappin' time
And [C]Bobby clappin' hands
We finally [G7]sang up every song that driver [C]knew

1st Chorus:
[F]Freedom's just another word for [C]nothin' left to lose
[G7]Nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's [C]free
[F]Feeling good was easy Lord when [C]Bobby sang the blues
[G7]Feeling good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and Bobby [C]McGee

From the coal mines of Kentucky to the California sun
Bobby shared the secrets of my soul
Standin' right beside me Lord
Through everything I've done
And every night she kept me from the cold

Then somewhere near Salinas Lord I let her slip away
Lookin' for the home I hope she'll find
And I'd trade all of my tomorrows
For a single yesterday
Holdin' Bobby's body next to mine

2nd Chorus:
Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose
Nothin' left is all she left for me
Feeling good was easy Lord when Bobby sang the blues
And buddy that was good enough for me
Good enough for me and Bobby McGee

The Lyrics should read "I took my Harp out of my Dirty Red Bandana". Harp meaning a harmonica.

Hi, The reference to 'Harpoon' is meant to imply the harmonica; a familiar musical instrument which is often referred to as a 'Harp', and less often, a 'Harpoon'. So after retrieving his harmonica from his 'Dirty Red Bandanna' (apparently he no longer had the original case:) he began 'blowing sad', meaning, of course, 'playing' the Blues with all his heart and soul on his Harpoon, while Bobby 'sang' the blues. (Sorry if this reply is redundant; I could not see any other responses) BTW: 'Harpoon' is also considered slang for a hypodermic needle. Double entendre? I don't think so, however, the argument could be plausible.

I took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana? So are they going spear fishing or something? The mental image is funny.
