I tried playing along to Willie's version that appears on the album "Revolutions of Time - The Journey 1975-1993", and it seems to be in a different key; the key of A I believe. So I think this is how the chords look:

D A D
Riding on the City of New Orleans
Bm G D
Illinois Central Monday morning rail
D A D
Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders
Bm A D
Three conductors and twenty five sacks of mail

Bm Fm
All along the Southbound odyssey the train pulls out of Kenkakee
A E
Rolls along past houses farms and fields
Bm Fm
Passing trains that have no name, and freight yards full of old black men
A A7 D
And graveyards of rusted automobiles

G A7 D Bm
Good morning America, how are ya? Don’t you know me,
G D
I’m your native son
A7 D A Bm Bm7 E
I’m the train they call the City of New Orleans
C Bm A A7 D
I’ll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done

Try an "F maj" chord on the word "gone" in the chorus. It's a nice touch and I think it's supposed to be there.
