Title: Souvenirs
All the s[G]now has turned to wa[C]ter
[D]Christmas day has come and g[G]one
Broken toys and faded c[C]olors
[D]Are all that's left to linger [G]on
[G]I hate graveyards and old p[C]awnshops
[D]For they always bring me t[G]ears
[G]Can't forgive the way they [C]rob me
[D]Of my childhoood souvenir[G]s
(Chorus:)
[D]Memories, they can't be b[G]oughten
They c[D]an't be won at carnivals for f[G]ree
[D]It took me years, to g[G]et those souvenirs
And I [C]don't know how they slipped away from[D] me
Broken hearts and dirty windows
Make life difficult to see
That's why last night and this morning
Always look the same to me
I hate reading old love letters
For they always bring me tears
Can't forgive the way they rob me
Of my sweetheart souvenirs
(repeat chorus)

From video footage of a 1990 concert John Prine uses a capo on the 5th fret and plays in D. This gives it that mandolin type effect. In later (more recent) years as his voice has changed, he moved the capo up to the 2nd fret. Of course, play anywhere that's good for you.
