All Along the Watchtower  Jimi Hendrix // Bob Dylan

    [Am]          [G]  [F]      [G]
Repetitious chords of Am and F --- with a brief passing G between them

There must be some kinda way outa here,
said the Joker to the thief.
There's too much confusion,
I can't get no relief.
Business men they, drink my wine,
Plowmen dig my earth.
None of them know along the line,
what any of it is worth.

No reason to get excited,
the thief he kindly spoke.
There are many here among us,
who think that life is but a joke.
But you and I we've been through that,
and this is not our fate.
So let us not talk falsely now,
the hour's getting late.

JAM

All along the watchtower,
princes kept the view.
While all the women came and went,
barefoot servants too.
Outside in the cold distance,
a wildcat did growl.
Two riders were approaching,
and the wind began to howl. Hey!

This is closer to the Dave Mathews Band version of the song; this author has transposed this into a minor diminished scale, so it is not wrong, just a different key. For example; the Am is played on the 6th & 8th frets, the G on the 6th & 5th frets and so on. You can also capo on the 3rd fret (use same open chords as this author indicates). Really fun to solo to since it is in Am. I would use a C in versus however and switch back to F on chorus.

lay it out the way it should be after gripping about it, cause anyone can be critical, plus I want to know the right way to play it.

Try Em then D then C then D

andersendc (report)

WTF is this? WHY would they allow this...?

traymcbride (report)

Hendrix didn't play it in this key, for one thing.

storminthedistance (report)

This is not the way Hendrix played this song.
