Love Potion #9  Lieber & Stoller

CAPO 2 in B
[Am]I took my troubles down to [D]Madam Rue
[Am]You know the gypsy with the [D]gold-capped tooth
[C]She's got a pad down on [Am]34th and Vine
[F]Selling little bottles of [G]Love Potion Number [Am]Nine

I told her that I was a flop with chicks
I been this way since 1956
She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign
She said "What you need is Love Potion Number Nine."
She [D]bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She [Bm]said "I'm gonna mix it up right here in the sink."
It [D]smelled like turpentine and looked like india ink
I [E]held my nose, I closed my eyes [E7](I took a drink)
I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissing everything in sight
But when I kissed a cop down on 34th and Vine
He broke my little bottle of Love Potion Number Nine
She [D]bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She [Bm]said "I'm gonna mix it up right here in the sink."
It [D]smelled like turpentine and looked like india ink
I [E]held my nose, I closed my eyes [E7](I took a drink)
I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissing everything in sight
I had so much fun I'm going back again
I wonder what happens with Love Potion Number Ten
Love Potion Number Nine,
Love Potion Number Nine,
Love Potion Number Nine

Want to add a little extra to this song? At the end of the first two verse lines drag the plectrum back up over the thin strings in a spookey way, dang-dang-dang, this is after all a song about magic. Even better raise your second finger to make a Dsus and the E strings sounds weird. Takes practise to strum then drag, strum then drag but it's a nice touch.
