Cherish   Association

three months.  [Maybe in Japan; in tbe US, it was #1 for tbree weeks.]
This song was a result of Terry Kirkman's fascination with the word
"Cherish". The group's music publisher fought the title, believing it
was too archaic. Arranged by the group, this song went through three
completely different productions before being recorded. At the time, it
was not considered for release as a single record. Fortunately, a disc
jockey in Ohio took it upon himself to cause a regional breakout.

Intro:

        Fmaj9 [xx7988]  Ebmaj9 [xx5766]

Verse 1:

        Fmaj9                Gm7/C [xx5766]   Ebmaj9   Gm7/C
Cherish is the word I use to describe
        All the [Fmaj9]feeling that I have hiding [Gm7/C]here for you inside[Ebmaj9]       [Gm7/C]
You don't know [Am7]how many times I've wished that I had t[Bb]old you
You don't know [Am7]how many times I've wished that I could h[Bb]old you
You don't know [Am7]how many times I've wished that I could
        [Bb]Mold you [Am7]into [Gm7]someone who could
        Bb                               C   [bammer-on: xx555x->xx756x]
Cherish me as much as I cherish you

Verse 2:

Perish is the word that more than applies
To the hope in my heart each time I realize
That I am not gonna be the one to share your dreams
That I am not gonna be the one to share your schemes
That I am not gonna be the one to share what
Seems to be the life that you could
Cherish as much as I do yours

Bridge:

Oh I'm be[Gm7]ginning to think that m[C]an has never found
The w[Am7]ords that could make you want [E]me
That have the r[C]ight amount of letters, j[F]ust the right [Dm/C]sound
That could [Bb]make you hear, [Gm7]make you see
That you are d[Eb]rivin' me out of my m[C]ind

        Oh I could say I [Fmaj9]need you  but then you'd r[C]ealize
That I [Cm]want you  just like a t[D9]housand other guys
Who'd say they l[Bb]oved you   With all the r[C]est of their lies
When all they w[Dm]anted was to t[/Bb]ouch your f[/A]ace, your h[/G]ands
        And gaze into your e[Eb]yes  [C]     [D7]
