Promises  Eric Clapton

[G]I don't care if you never come home
[C]I don't mind if you just
keep on [G]rolling away on a distant sea cause
D * G
I don't love you and you don't love me.
[G]You cause a commotion when you come to town
[C]Give 'em a smile and they melt
Well with[G]lovers and friends That's all good and fine,
D * G
But I don't like yours and you don't like mine.

[G]La [C]la---- [F#]la la la la [D]la
[G]La [C]la---- [F#]la la la la [D]la

[G]I don't care what you do late at night
[C]I don't care how you get your delights,
I'll [G]leave you alone, I'll just let it be
D * G
I don't love you and you don't love me.

           [C]I've got a problem, [G6/B]can you relate,
           [Am]I've got a woman [G]callin' love hate
[C]We made a vow [G6/B]We'd aways be friends
[Am]How could we know that the [G]promises end?

[G]La [C]la---- [G]la la la la [D]la
[G]La [C]la---- [G]la la la la [D]la
[G]I tried to love you for years upon years,
[C]You refused to take me for real
Now It's [G]time you saw what I want you to see
D * G
I still love you But it just can't be.

(chorus)

Hey water_rat the notation here as D*G means play the D chord THEN slide into the G chord on the 6th string from the 2nd to the 3rd fret. For the 'signature' sound/riff of THIS song. Hope that helps.

I believe the F# should be a Bm

Ok....I am new at tryin' to read all this. I just have one question. What is "D*G". Could someone explain it to me. I am perceiving it to play D then G.
