Ok Hi fellow guitarists. I am really trying (without much success) to get my head around this theory stuff. Oh man this stuff is way so confusing!
I have a question about notes. At the moment I am trying to learn the notes all over the neck, I am using fretpro to try and memorise them all. But when I play each note on my guitar...say for example I am playing the note c in the different places over the neck...they all sound different, even though it's meant to be the same note. So how can this be? If it's the same note my brain tells me it should sound roughly the same, but it doesn't. Someone please explain.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I'll have to kick my brain into gear. I'm working on it wink

Hi,
I'm still learning so forgive me for a rather dumb question.  I am having trouble understanding barr chords. For instance when you do an 'F' (which is hell to do by the way) you barr the 1st fret with your pointing finger and form the E shape with the others....you know...and that makes your barr F. But I've read you can move the shape down (or is it up? towards the hole) the neck, so does it still remain an F, or does it then become another chord? And what makes it an F in the 1st place? And then when you use the other shapes to form other barr chords how do you know what they are? I hope you understand what I mean and I'm hoping someone can explain in an EASY to understand way.
Thanks

Gidday everyone I'm 42 from Australia. I have been playing for 1 year. I try and get some practice in everyday but with work, kids and lots of animals to look after I am lucky if I get a good solid 15 mins a day. I can only play when no-one is home because my playing stinks.
My goal is to get better. I am also trying to get my head around the theory stuff, barr chords and the dreaded F. Also trying to play and sing at the same time which is suprisingly hard to do.
I would love to chat and make contact with other guitarists.

Persistance is my only talent!

Hi, Does anyone know the correct strumming pattern for this song? It's got nice easy chords Em, C, G, D a good beginners song and a nice tune.

Atm I am strumming dddudu and it sounds pretty right to me. I just listened to the song and copied what I heard, so I did a internet search just to check if I was right but it seems everyone that does a lesson on this song has a diff strumming pattern...and you guessed it none of them matched mine.

If it sounds right to me do I just go for it...what are your thoughts? I'm no expert.

Sometimes I wonder how I ever got mixed up in this guitar bizzo. It's a constant struggle trying to teach myself and having no-one to jam with and no support of any kind (non musical family).
I'm also trying to study the theory stuff. Nothing seems to come easy for me but I don't want to give up, cause I just love it...eventually I gotta get better....some time before I go into an aged care home preferably.
I find alot of help and support on these forums but a one on one chat with someone going on the same journey would be great.
Does anyone wanna chat with me about guitar stuff, music, life in general? You'll need msn messenger and a good sense of humour.

I'm in Australia so be aware of the different time zone.

E-mail me if interested and we'll take it from there.

I find using one of those thinner picks gives me that thwup thwup sound...not a cool sound in my opinion, but could be just that I'm still learning and I'm doing something wrong...either way I prefer one of the thicker picks, and I like bright pink ones cause they have a harder time trying to hide from me. I dunno about you but all my picks have an evil streak in them that makes them want to run away and hide, like they have joined forces with those odd socks and pens that seem to like hiding too.
I can't play very well without a pick, down strums are ok but up strums just don't work.

Hi,
I'm new here smile
Guilty of the same.  I think you need to actually sing and play the song too otherwise you lose where you are supposed to be at in the song. At the moment I can't sing n play...yet.
