Topic: Getting back into Guitaring....

Ok so...

Ive been playing the guitar for nearly two years. Im 15 now and taking music as a GCSE course, i play acoutic rythem, with the exceptions of small riffs in beatle songs and such. My music teacher has been pressuring me to change this and he even said that my music (i write my own songs aswell) and playing is not up to standard and i need to change the way i play. This has kind of thrown me off my guitar...i havent played in quite a while and my fingers have gone back to the soft tips they once were  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_sad.gif" border=0 alt="Sad">  anyone know of any acoustic songs/ exercises to try and get me back into guitaring? I dont want to change the way i play really as i love what i used to play so why change? dont know why i quit....

Anyway i like stuff like the eagles, the beatles, pink floyd, the rollings stones and things like that. Any suggestions?

Listen, don't change. I'm the same way. My friend comes over and wants me to just play, riffs and stuff. But I love playing rhythm. every good band needs a rhythm player. PLAY WHAT YOU WANT.. TELL YOUR TEACH TO EAT IT

Re: Getting back into Guitaring....

Hello MusicalMonkey,

I agree whole heartedly with pondrat15's comments. Most of us play for the pleasure of doing so, it does not matter if we cannot play well, it does not matter if we cannot sing well, as long as we enjoy what we are doing and are not harming anyone else, well, get on with it my friend and have fun. I have been playing rhythm guitar for for 48 years as a backing for my singing and have enjoyed every second of it. I have played in bands, duos and gone solo so keep at it and do not be disheartened.

As for easy songs to play you need to do no more than look in the Public books under Absolute Beginners to find some suitable songs. In fact look through any of the songbooks and you will find the words and chords for the songs so you need to be a rhythm player to perform them.

Good luck to you,

Roger

I always encourage everyone to expand and learn more stuff, but the most important thing is to play what you want. If your teacher doesn't think you origional stuff is up to snuff then i geuss you won't be lead guitarist for his band.If he is teaching stuff you want to know then learn all you can from him. If not then get away from him while you are still having fun!!!
