Welcome harold.  I don't believe I have seen this before.  Can you point us to an example?

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Hi Harold

Welcome to Chordie.  I believe this is a jazz chord notation where a "-" symbol indicates a minor chord and the "o" symbol denotes a diminished chord therefore the chord you are looking at is Ab dim.
You can find alternative fingerings here http://www.chordie.com/voicings.php?tun … ord=Abdim.
If I am wrong on this somebody will put me right soon enough.

Re: chords with a o

yes and augmented will sometimes be shown as " + "

Re: chords with a o

Diminished it is!  Flattened 3rd and 5th.  Crazy jazz chords, man.

Someday we'll win this thing...
