Always the Situation

Just a bluesy song about making it through tough times.

Always the Situation

By Jeff Gilpin

April 29, 2012

Intro
[D] [C] [G] [D]

Verse 1
[G]Isn’t it always the situation
[G]Got an argument with no persuasion
[C]Even though you know your side is right
You’ve got no way to win the [G]fight

Verse 2
[G]Isn’t it always the way it goes
[G]You need to catch a break like no one knows
But [C]all the breaks you ever catch are bad
It'd be almost funny if it weren’t so [G]sad

But isn’t that [D]always [C] the situ[G]ation
And it’s [D]always the [C]way it’s going to [G]stay son [D]

Verse 3
[G]Can’t remember what all went wrong
[G]Life’s like an old Hank Williams song
A [C]song about a girl long gone
And how you think about her all night [G]long

Verse 4
The [G]good life’s for the fortunate
[G]Well good for them you know you can’t hate
You [C]tip my hat to them and say cheers
As you sip on whiskey chased with [G]beers

But isn’t that [D]always [C] the situ[G]ation
And it’s [D]always the [C]way it’s going to [G]stay son [D]

Verse 5
[G]Maybe you'll move to another place
[G]Where bad luck never has seen your face
[C]Show them the right way to punch a clock
Become one of the haves and forget the [G]nots

Verse 6
But if [G]you move someplace else who’s to say
[G]Will life be better than it is today
A[C]nother place will have their problems too
Like trying on a new pair of worn out [G]shoes

Can’t get a[D]way [C] from this situ[G]ation
Just more [D]pain [C]and mis[G]fortune

Verse 7
[G]Goodness comes and goodness goes
[G]But you know this is the life you chose
A [C]life of hard work of which you're proud
Another working man ‘nother face in the [G]crowd

Verse 8
[G]Someday you guess your time will come
[G]You’ll survive until then but when you're done
You’ll look [C]back on what you’ve done with your life
As you've tried to keep as sharp as a worn out [G]knife

But that’s al[D]ways [C] the situ[G]ation
In the [D]end [C] you’re going to [G]pay son
Yeah that’s al[D]ways [C] the situ[G]ation
In the [D]end [C] you’re going to [G]pay…

C D G

Re: Always the Situation

Are you going to record this, Jeff? I'd love to hear how you do it, with your rhythm and melody!

Re: Always the Situation

Hey M.B and Dino,

Thanks - M.B. - I need to get back to recording but I am way behind but I will add this to my list. Dino - I had country or country rock in mind when I wrote it.

Like too hear it if you ever post it,might think a little Eagles on the rock side might work.

Re: Always the Situation

The good thing about a song like this, with a fairly straight chord pattern, is that you can come up with so many ways to play and sing it. I like it more along the style of Old Crow Medicine Show. A little country/folk/rock or americana or whatever you call that. But I can hear it in a more Eagles style too.
