Topic: Old Silvertone new pickups

The pickups on my Silvertone bass gave up the ghost so a few weeks ago I ordered 2 Fender jazz bass pickups and wiring they arrived this morning and I mounted them and wired the harness and was pleasantly rewarded with everything working the first time the sound is excellent and I reworked the neck adjustment and the intonation is dead on the strings are very low which makes it a dream to play no popping or buzzing just great tone and bottom I did sand the pick guard and spray painted it flat black which looks great with the deep purple finish and chrome hardware so now I can move ahead with my new recording projects smile

I know which one you mean now. My daughter has the exact same one. Same color and a white pickguard. I found it at a yard sale for 50.00.

Re: Old Silvertone new pickups

That's what I paid for it at a music store it was in tough shape needing major surgery the strings were over 1/4 inch off the fretboard the front pickup was dead and the wiring was shorting out the only way to lower the strings was to remove 1/4 " of wood around the bridge and crank the neck screw to straighten out the bow.I replaced the pickups and installed a new wiring harness Zurf sent me a couple sets of light gauge bass stings and that helped out quite a bit it frets really nice I still need to find the other knob for the tone control its around somewhere smile

Re: Old Silvertone new pickups

dino the set that is on is one of the sets Zurf sent me actually they are lighter then standard but they don't sound any different I don't know about painting it I sort of like the way it looks now what I like most is the ease of fretting and the intonation all the way up the fretboard smile

Just one of those things" ???? What a goofy comment from a business that's represents itself as professional. I agree with all the other comments. Check around with folk you know who have had similar work done, and find a shop where they know what they're doing, and know how to take care of their customers.

Re: Old Silvertone new pickups

i thought i'd missed a post there, go on russ, take no prisoners...

funnily enough it looks very much like my "wilson" bass, i guess it's a standard shape.

i prefer heavy strings though, to get a deeper richer sound, my preference.
