Re: Advice needed

I'm jealous Russ!!!! I think when I am ready for an electric I will end up building a kit or rebuilding a cheap copy.

Check out these two forums. I've stumbled on them before and there seems to be lots of knowledge getting thrown around.

Re: Advice needed

Hi Russ

Can't offer any help but I also am jealous. Being a woodworker I would love to build my own guitar. Would be totaly lost when it came to the electronics.

best of luck with the project
Jack

Re: Advice needed

I may not have to build one I think I can use this and if needed replace wiring  pickups and tuning pegs but I really like this finish I can always get another neck if I don't like the one that's on I am more interested in the body the price is very reasonable I am going to ask my expert who can set up a guitar really fine smile

Re: Advice needed

Russ that kit looks good, GFS has kits also.  If you look at Jx3's topic I put a bounch of links in it for that company.  Why not find a pawn shop or buy that copy on amazon and just tweak it?  ther is this option also  at Rondo music : http://www.rondomusic.com/shadowcsb.html
if you just want a guitar to customize.  Hope this helps

Re: Advice needed

Looks like a blast of a project, Russell;

Don't know if this is any use, but the next guitar on my "G.A.S. List" is this bass by Ibanez:

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/u_eb_p … ies_id=112

The thing I really like is that it has a very small diameter neck for fast fretting, yet still holds fantastic sustain because it has a 5-layer neck (sorta like plywood on its edge). This combo of jatoba & bubinga (African members of the mahogany family, I believe) makes it very rigid. It would make sense that a similar laminate style of neck for an electric would be more rigid than a single, solid piece of wood, regardless of species.

Have fun with that kit ... looks amazing!

Re: Advice needed

I found something better and I don't have to build it its going to be delivered this week smile

Dino, Rhondo has them at that price and then if you look deeper they go up in quality and only slightly more expensive.

Ditto on Letting us know how they play!

lol that's funny I didn't notice your link were on the same page these Rondo guitars are really good not just because of the price but the workmanship and playability and there's quite a selection to choose from I will put up a video when I get it smile

Re: Advice needed

I bought my son and hubby both electrics from rondo a few years ago.  They're still going strong and neither has insisted on a new electric yet (new acoustics yes, but apparently the electrics are good enough).  smile  I think I eyed Jeff eyeing Jim's guitar when he was here, but in my excitement it didn't hit me.  We should have both said something to Jim and made him get it out!
