Topic: Ever had a day........

So last Wed night I made some recordings and it sounded really good,   Tonight I tried again just to play and get that sound,, no matter what I did I could not light that fire a second time!  granted the first time I was running line in to my mixer, but out of the amp it just was not the killer sound I have on disk.

So then no matter what setting I tried, nothing sounded good.  Maybe it was me, maybe I was trying to force it, I dont know.

I feel for ya, buddy ...

In a similar vein, I found the ideal tone for "Money for Nothing" (Dire Straits) a while back, and had a "Eureka!" moment while playing it. That cool growl Mark Knopfler has in is Strat is unique, and I was feeling like a genius for having found it. But like an idiot, I never wrote down the amp, pedal, and guitar settings and I haven't been able to find it again.

So I did the mature thing and gave up.

Re: Ever had a day........

Happens all the time - usually when I've had a few (or a lot) in the evening I think to myself - "hey that's really good". Then the next day I sound like crap again.

I believe adult beverages may play a role.

Rule No. 1 - If it sounds good - it is good!

Re: Ever had a day........

Couldn't get it right out of the amp, or recorded?  I've had too many occasions where it sounded like the love child of Lita Ford and Stevie Ray Vaughn coming out of the amp, but when I played it back, it sounded like me.  sad

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Ever had a day........

Probably much to everyones surprise, I was sober both times! LOLOL  Jerome, what I sent you was what I was trying to re-create.  I had not touched a single setting, EXCEPT that I was now running through my amp  and not line-in to the mixer and headphones.  I wanted to pratice to the first drum beat. (BTW drmms,, heavyier smile ) Then  it just became a hour of testing all kinds of stuff and playing diff songs an nothing sounded good no matter what.

Re: Ever had a day........

Ah....  There is something to be said for volume.    You get more perception in headphones than you do out the amp.  So turn it up to 11 and see if that doesn't help.

I'll punch out that drum track tonight I think, after all the kids have gone to bed.    I'll also load it up with the most obnoxious kit I can find.  big_smile
