Re: Zurfapalooza

OK Brother Zurf,

You've had a couple days to recuperate and get your place put back together after the party.... So, how was your weekend?

Inquiring minds want to know...

It was just three of us. Topdawg, an old friend of mine who is just learning, and me. We did circle format and had my friend who didn't know any songs just play some clean chords. We had plenty to eat with salty snacks, spicy barbeque wings, cheeseburgers, beans, and some other sides. My friend brought a dessert with fresh fruit on a pizza sized cookie that went over well. We played on my patio until about 11 PM, having started at about 3:30. Overall, it was a lot of fun, and it gave me the chance to get to know Topdawg better.

Re: Zurfapalooza

Sounds like a good time anyway..... sorry the turnout was not as large as you wanted.  Know how that is, had a family reunion this last weekend myself.  Last year about 60 folks managed to attend, and this year 12 made it.

My freezer is full of cheesecake that nobody came to eat, but we had a nice trip and good conversation, and there's always next year.

Glad you had a good time, Zurf - I can picture the scene!
Doug - a freezer full of cheesescake sounds good to me! You may possibly need to arrange a music-based gathering to help with that...

Re: Zurfapalooza

Glad to hear you had a good time Zurf.  I'd have loved to had a chance to do some pickin' with you and Robert again.

My trip to Florida ended up being a little different than expected.  On Aug 21 my son-in-law left for a 6 month deployment over-seas.  The next day my daughter Melissa was injured when a car pulled out in front of her. She jammed on the brakes but still hit the front passenger side of the other car. The other driver wasn't injured but Melissa's right foot was shattered from impact with the brake pedal and her car was totaled. I immediately headed south and was able to take her to various doctor and surgeon's appointments and also drive my grandkids to music lessons, play practice, etc. My grandson Sam is playing Frederick (oldest Von Trapp son) in Pensacola Little Theater's production of "Sound of Music". He was thrilled with the Takamine acoustic-electric I bought him for his birthday but we were too busy to spend much time pickin' together.

That's the right thing to have done DE.

When confronted with some choices to take, I turned to our friend Alvin for advice. He said, "First, figure out the things that are right. Then do one of those." Taking care of family, and taking care of people around us whose family is deployed are right things.
