Topic: Taken the Plunge

Gidday,
When i`ve put songs Or poems here, often get the comment.
Look forward to the video.
Well i can`t sing,& just a strummer, but so many songs i need to put a voice to.
So i`ve opened a `soundcloud` account so i can put some audio out there.
I have found this a VERY scary thing to do.i love writing songs & needed to do
something with them.So i`ve mumbled my way through a few so far (a few bum notes)
BUT I couldn`t have done this without your encouragement.
Many many thanks to those of you who have encouraged me.

Goodonya  Easybeat!!

It can be intimidating putting yourself out there.... but a lot easier online rather than onstage (at least to start) Plus you don't have to dodge beer bottles!

Did you overlook the link to Soundcloud?

Re: Taken the Plunge

The more you record and perform, the better you get.  I won't say it gets any easier, but you get better at doing it.

Joe Walsh said, "That's the whole idea, isn't it, to play in front of people. No one wants to be a legend in his own garage. You're afraid you're going to suck, and you will because everyone sucks at first. The idea is to keep playing in front of people until eventually you suck less."

That's paraphrased from the dinner discussion of a Live at Daryl's House episode with Joe Walsh.

Re: Taken the Plunge

Great easy eat. I started putting mine on YouTube a couple of years ago and the rest is history. I'm just a strummer also. At first it was real scary and I can tell you that it gets easier, but I still get nervous when I start recording. That little red light makes me play too fast or too slow and sometimes the song is all over the place. I get comments like I like your slower version of this song. Well I didn't intend for it to be slower or faster, but that damn red light puts me on the spot.

You can see all my video covers on http://www.youtube.com/bensonp1000
I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Hey easybeat,

You know what? You've just done what a lot of people, including me, are too timid to do. Congratulations on your decision and I hope it brings you a lot of satisfaction!

Re: Taken the Plunge

Artee I can not sing either so you are not alone, peter benson has gotten better little by little and he sounds great now.

Looking forward to it Easybeat. You're right though; it is scary, but you've got friends out here too.

Re: Taken the Plunge

Really love the comments from Joe Walsh ... I'm a real fan of his music and his persona.

Everyone has different needs met with music. I have no thought or desire to perform ever again, even at small gatherings. For me, music is an inexpensive and more enjoyable alternative to psychotherapy! (LOL) Unwinding with the guitar, learning a new tune, listening to and playing along with some favorites, etc., it's all a private form a relaxation that's very personal. For me, taking that to public performance at any level would remove the relaxation component, and put added stress into it. That would defeat my entire interest in music at this stage of life.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Taken the Plunge

You sure can play!!!!!!  The singing could be WAY worse too, not too bad!  I wish I had half your guitar skills!

I love the quote from Zurf above...  Joe Walsh said, "That's the whole idea, isn't it, to play in front of people. No one wants to be a legend in his own garage. You're afraid you're going to suck, and you will because everyone sucks at first. The idea is to keep playing in front of people until eventually you suck less."

Art and beauty are in the eyes of the beholder.
What constitutes excellent music is in the ears of the listener.

Re: Taken the Plunge

I found that the first link worked, but not the second one. Anyway - wow! Great stuff easybeat! I am always in awe of people who can write their own songs! Your voice is fine, would just like to hear it slightly higher in level.
Have not really explored Souncloud before, but will try to do so...
Cheers!
