Topic: two at a time?

any one else ever work on two more songs simultaneously?  I  come up with lines that don't really fit what I am working but they are to good to trash so I end up with several going at one time.   then the original ends up on the back burner or forgotten for awhile. its strange some just  seem to write them self's in a few minutes and others are a struggle that can drag on for ever. just a few thoughts from a wandering mind. hey there may a song in that line, crap  that will be #4 in note book.

out of tune out of key and out of touch

I do it all the time - i use the notepad on my phone usually to record thoughts that pop in my head --- it seems the easiest for me.

I usually have two or three going - then I forget about them for a while and when searching for something on my computer - they will invariably pop up and I'll go
" hmmm, oh yeah.... I remember that "

another scenario for me is a lyric that i have worked on - but can't find the right chord progression - I get mad -   put it away forget about for a year or so :0 )

I woke up the other night had a great verse and chord progression in my head.... sat on edge of bed - went over it a couple of times...was gonna go downstairs and write it down..... but then said to my self - eh - I 'll do it when i get up - went back to sleep .  You know the outcome probably already -   woke up   "Craft syndrome"  set in ( .... can't remember a freaking thing)  !

I have no idea of words or lyrics - just remember that I had a good one !

Jim sounds like we suffer the same affliction CRS (cant remember s***) one other scenario, two different songs wind up merging into one with bits and pieces discarded stashed away for another project

Re: two at a time?

I sometimes write bits down as they come up or just record a riff or progression on my lap top then come back to it when the next bit pops into my head but mostly I do the whole thing straight off usualy at stupid o clock in the morning

Re: two at a time?

It happens to me most of the time! I usually get great lines while I'm in the shower or bed. Funny how those are the best ones you've written if only you'd actually written them down?

I started taking a pen and pad to bed but the wife complained about the light coming on all the time and waking her up😴

Now I just write them down when I remember, which is why I have a backlog or my songs sound so disjointed. Never mind it's better to have a load that you can pick the best bits from 😇

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: two at a time?

Also guilty as charged. I might jot down an idea for a poem, and not develop it for months, if at all. Other times the whole thing comes together in a few minutes. I usually keep a note pad within reach, just so I can jot something down when it comes to mind. Creativity is a curious journey!

Re: two at a time?

If I don't write an idea down when I have it, it gets lost. I have a book of lines I have come up with but most of my songs come at a rush and get written really fast. My big problem is quite often I have a good hook but it leads nowhere. It is still worth writing down as often the idea is good but I need to come at it from a different direction. for example "I hear the call of the Morepork" can become  "the Morepork's lonely cry"If I get too caught up on trying to use some things everything ends up at a dead end. Once I have the first 3 or 4 lines everything starts flowing.
