Topic: I'm Back On Windows 7, But.......

.....boy what a headache! First, 10 wouldn't turn me loose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdaZ7N-W9vw, so I had to go to "custom" install of 7.

Y'all know what that does, I'm sure, but I didn't. It wipes all your files, so now I have to reload all of them, including this site, (which I did FIRST, thankya very much!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4fWN6VvgKQ

Okay, so next I need to go to a site whose name I do not remember, but which I have written down, which was supposed to back up my files.
"Carbonite" maybe? I don't know, I'll have to look it up - any suggestions?

So what that means is - I'm going to be busy for a while..... workin'........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FA3Royf9_zM

But...... I CAN access my yahoo and g-mail, so if any of my buds wanna get in touch by posting here (I've subscribed) or via e-mail, that's fine. I just wanted you to know I won't be posting any "original" stuff........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRdtlwVBQ8A

So.... it looks like the "German Boy's" got himself into trouble again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5mq9M6ozng

I made all these youtube songs like I did to save on all the pictures that would come up. (Also because I forgot how to do it smile sad smile sad  )

So anyway, I'm still here and I'm not steppin' out on y'all! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o3T7lNEffs

Glad I didn't jump right into it. I think I'll hang on to 7 until the support ends.

Re: I'm Back On Windows 7, But.......

hey bill. i had a catastrophic crash last year with win7 and had to re-install it....in doing so lost almost everything including at least 10 years of family photos. luckily a lot were backed up to the cloud so i got them back, but everything else including my songs, stories and lots of files and programs were kaput.

i must be honest i saw your post and almost wrote warning you of the consequences, but i saw you had advice from cleverer people than me so i thought there was a work around.

just a thought; i keep a book beside my PC with passwords site names addresses etc as my memory aint winning any prizes.

best of luck and sorry for not giving the heads up

Aw, Phill, don't even give it a second thought. It was mimedia that had the online backup of my files, but they've rebuilt their system, so I do not know if I can recover them. I gave them all my data, so we will see.

I too, have books beside my computer with the same info as you and I think it is time to redo them all into one. smile

I appreciate you and all my friends looking after me in the tech department as well as everything y'all do for us!

Thanks

Re: I'm Back On Windows 7, But.......

Well, here is the answer from mimedia. it is as I thought:

Regarding case #00001458, (the *****@yahoo.com account) appears it was under our old platform. Unfortunately, the servers where the account had resided have been dismantled and data erased.

As such, we have no other mechanisms to restore the data. I am sorry for the news.

Question: Can I back up my computer on one of those "thumb" thingies?

Thanks

YES !!!!!  Actually having a backup locally as well as on the "cloud" is preferable.  I'm not that trusting of the online boys so far as keeping my stuff safe, from harm or prying eyes. Thumb drives are excellent as well as portable hard drives (which is what I use), and at least every 6 months I burn a copy to recordable DVD that absolutely makes sure a crash or other such catastrophe doesn't wipe out all those photos etc..

Re: I'm Back On Windows 7, But.......

for safety you'd need a biggie, 32 gig at least and that wont last very long if you back-up regularly. best thing i've found is an external HD or expansion drive. i bought a Seagate 1 gig which was quite cheap, they're coming down in price. and seeing as my PC is only a 500gig, i've got treble my storage capacity, i think. i expect someone smarter will come along and tell me i'm wrong, so i'll just say it works for me.
