Topic: Plexi Drum Shields

I'd been wondering why many drummers erect those plexiglass shields around when performing. I wondered if perhaps they had a communicable disease, or if maybe the other band members didn't like him (or he didn't like them!). I found this succinct explanation, which is probably something everyone else already knows, but it had eluded me:

I wish there was Wikipedia when I was growing up, 'cuz I know I drove my parents and teachers nuts with endless questions.

Re: Plexi Drum Shields

Maybe its to keep the acoustic sound of the drums bleeding into the audio mics ,so only the miced sound of the drums comes through the PA and monitors alowing the band to play at lower stage volumes while the drummer still knocks 7 bells out of his kit.
