Topic: Copyright Query

General Website Question: I teach free guitar lessons. Can I create a blog/site and publish lyrics/chords for access by my students (educational purposes only? I know UltimateGuitar.com (not a paid endorsement) and other similar sites have license agreements with music publishers. Would I be in violation of copyright laws if I did this?

Re: Copyright Query

Hi there,

As your query has nothing to do with the topic where you posted it I have removed it and opened a new topic for you.

You really need to talk to a lawyer specialising in this field for the definitive answer but, to the best of my knowledge, posting copyright lyrics with out permission or the necessary licence is illegal. Now whether 'they' would take action against an individual who was making it available to a small number of students for teaching purposes I do not know, I guess a lot would depend on whether you were doing it for monetary gain or not.

Re: Copyright Query

There's an educational exemption I believe.
