Topic: SUGGESTIONS: NOVEMBER 2017 FEATURED SONG OF THE MONTH

Ok, this month after asking you the members, we have a new idea from one of our members ZURF, who has come up with this  idea.  Zurf has suggested we have a Challenge Theme that uses the FIRST SONG each of us learned to play.   A great idea!  He mentioned they most likely will be relatively easy songs to learn and hopefully more people will jump on-board and have ago at the challenge.

LET DO IT! Jump onboard, have ago at this!.  Whether you’re a singer, a guitarist, or  play any other instrument,  a song writer or any or all of the above, come join in and let`s see what we all learnt first!  It may just be a musical piece, you may be able to sing or not sing, it doesn’t matter, it’s the joining in and challenging each other to attempt that song that is the fun of it all.

READY, SET, GO!!!

Two songs I learnt at a ukulele class I attended ( from memory and I cant honestly remember which one was first) so putting them both down were ~Elvira~ and
~ Folsom Prison~.
On guitar years ago when I self taught myself I think it was ~Sylvia`s Mother~.

The first song I learned was Randy Travis' I'm Going To Love You Forever.

I can't remember my first song, but I remember the Paul Kelly song "To her door" was amongst the first ... http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.g … 26227.html

My first song is before I could remember as music was there from my first day. Having that background I still can't sing good. Both my parents loved music it was an important part of my growing up.

I learned a bunch of parts to songs!  7  notes to smoke on the water,  and stuff like that. but really first song, .....

A horse with no name.

and probably Gloria.  its Van but I was playing it to The Doors version. lol (a little more disjointed) or stepping stone by the monkeys

Re: SUGGESTIONS: NOVEMBER 2017 FEATURED SONG OF THE MONTH

My first song was "Leaving on a Jet Plane".  I remember this discussion coming up years ago and could swear a bunch of people said their first song was "House of the Rising Sun".  When I was new, I couldn't understand how that would be chosen as a first, because I thought it was awful difficult but then again I've only ever played it somewhat the way I learned it (my Dad's way, not calm and cool like the original).  wink

Art and beauty are in the eyes of the beholder.
What constitutes excellent music is in the ears of the listener.

I love A Horse With No Name. Four chords, three of which you don't really see anywhere else, and it has a terrific bass line that I've never been able to get right.  To quote Jimmy Buffett from God's Own Drunk, "It's so simple it plumb evades me."

Granted B chord amnesty by King of the Mutants (Long live the king).

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Jambalaya as a first song. Two cheater chords each played with one finger.  That's the one I tried to teach my daughters.

When I replace my scanner, I'll send you a chord chart that came from the America website. I haven't been there in a while, but they used to have chord charts to a lot of their songs the way they played them.

Not sure if this will help, but I wrote a chord diagram program some time ago:

Will also work for different stringed instruments (via settings) ...

Enjoy ...
